Dumbleator materials

Post by angelodp »

I there any reason why simple milk plexiglass pieces couldn't be used for the boards in this build... say 3/16th

Also, 3/16" is too thick for standard lugs and turrets. They have to stick out far enough on the other side to swage the ends. Hoffman and McMaster have garolite pretty cheap. It is murder on saw blades though. Skip

Keystone makes eyelets up to 1/4" deep, so I see no problem there, you should get the material data sheet and look at the dielectric strength, flame retardant properties, and melting temp, etc.- I think you could make it work if you really want to-

The first amp I ever built was on .25" plexiglass from the local ACE store. I used escureon pins (brass) and mounted pushed them into holes I drilled in the plexiglass.

It worked, put the plexiglass did melt with enough heat. The board is still hanging on my wall as a testament to how not to do things :).

Still had a picture of that amp (many times rebuilt).
