Smitty wrote: Thu Nov 14, 2024 4:22 am If you'd rather have factory stock amp one option would be to sell this one an seek another that is closer to what you're looking for. I have to say I'm curious enough about how this amp sounds I may be interested in acquiring it. It's like a puzzle. Please PM me if that's something you'd like to explore.
The problem with that, is an original would cost way more than you could get for this one as is.
This could certainly be restored to original. I've restored worse than this..It would not be cheap, and would be a labor of love to do it right.

PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THIS CIRCUIT YET

These amps are *not* expensive. 1stly. You see people asking 3-4 times what the market will bear FOR YEARS no sale. They are about 14-1800 at most and in near mint condition.

PLEASE do a favor. Moderate all the things you think are volumes to 4 or 5 and play through that. Do not DIME OUT any of them.

That freaking amp sings, and it doesn't have to rage to do it. Let me look at the circuit. What you have is 2 flavors of normal and two of OD.

The factory Volumes are clean channels, each channel has an (OD1 and serial OD2 [ratio, lead master) control. There two control settings should probably never be over 7 and never add up to 10. 5-5, 4-6, 3-7.. don't dime any control. The original Volume controls should be like 3 or 4 but never dirty when OD is disengaged.

When you set everything at 5 it will be rasing hell with OD engaged. the first OD controls should be moderated from this setting.

Trust me. Or sell it to me. I'll even help you find another amp, or put mine back to stock and trade you. Mine is cascaded channels and tweaked Harmonic Vib, slower and awesome. A tube Univibe. OT changed to 50w 4/8/16. Have original. Hope these work.

Hey hey Reel! Thanks for the insight, crazy what you guys can discern from some photos. It certainly validates what it sounded like when I got it running, not sure if you saw my post above that had my initial findings?

I am definitely leaving it in place as is for now and going to just enjoy it.

Is there any sort of info on where this amp came from? I saw it was inherited. What I'm getting at is if the location where the amp was modified was known, perhaps it may give some clues as to who modded it.

This is a cool amplifier. To me, from a glance at all the parts, it was modified in the 80's if not earlier. These modifications could be 40+ years old.

It may not be something HAD or Ken F may have modified, but it's definitely a piece that either a pre internet diy guitar player modified, or a great expense was forked over. This amp would have taken many hours to do. It does not look like an amp that was modified several times over. It looks as though the whole thing was done as a complete modification package. This isn't a marshal parallel to cascade job.

Interested in this one for sure.

Can we see some pics of the amplifier other than the gut shots?

It was my father in laws who was a very smart electronics guy and also a big guitar player, so I have no doubt he did this all himself to get some awesome custom OD tones. Designed his own amps, pedals, you name it.

The head is just standard looking bandmaster.

Not bastardized at all. It's a one-of-a-kind customized amp that's worth keeping just as it is.

An heirloom from an era that we're still sorting. One of a kind, so cherish it. Send blueprints when you've time and perhaps exploit the help here to make that happen.

Please love this amp as much as I do. I hope so. It's an artful monster living in that common box. He made things in the exact way I do. Hide the monsters. #hotrods4ever
