#183 Build 50w

Post by amplifiednation »

I built this #183 using the Amplified Nation Chassis and Board set, and some other parts I had in the shop.

It has 2 EL34, classic tone output, heyboer power transformer

I overlayed a new silkscreen on top of the chassis.

I am going to build a kermit green suede cabinet for it next week. Sounds awesome. 250KB gain pots are so killer!

Sweet!! That looks awesome!!

I'm considering what to build after I finish up with this Trinity OSD kit, I might have to pick up one of your chassis, boards, and cab. Those look fantastic!

Wow, that is a thing of beauty - well done!

I've always wanted to do a 50W #183, but have always wondered what to do about the trannies. As the original #183 used out of spec Twin iron running a quad of EL34's, surely if you did a 50W version you would have to factor in the out of 'specness', to get the operating characteristics right. Taylor, did you use a Classic Tone Bassman OT to run your EL34's, and a custom Heyboer? If so, could you tell us what you requested for the heater current capability etc?

I'd really love to hear some clips!

Cheers,

Paul.

Nicely done Taylor! On the relay supply using the 5VAC and a FWB, that has to be right on the ragged edge of having enough headroom for the regulator, no?

Seems to hold up ok...I've been using this setup for awhile without issues. I think this might be the first build thread using the boards - thanks again for your contribution!!! I obviously didn't use them all...but they are killer

I forgot how much 'tone lives on' without built in reverb attenuation. The amp sounds incredible

I concur!

Taylor, what gauge/type wires do you tend to use for your builds? Your lead dress and soldering always looks extremely neat!

22-24ga stranded Teflon for signal and relay wiring.
20ga for preamp heaters
18ga for power heaters

I use a lot of the transformer clippings too!

I use two kinds of solder on these. I really like the clean look of Kester 245 but the flux isn’t aggressive enough to solder the back of the pots. I use Kester 44 for that, and still add more flux!

LOL.. That was my though when I built a 100w Wonderland... The reverb really does kill a lot of gain.

Lovely build Taylor. I'm always in awe of these tidy builds.

Your building an amp for a neighbour of mine. Tom [emoji41] I told him you made great amps.

Nice! Thanks for the tip on the solder. I'll have to pick up some. I'm running low on my general supply as it is.
Expect a PM soon on buying a chassis, boards, and cab from you! This work is inspiring!
BTW - Are those Koa Speer CF resistors you used in the signal chain?

I like the #60 mixer and attenuation way better for that rather than the Two Rock style Reverb after the master (#60 simulate an half way master as part of the mixer/atténuation network).

Awesome build as always.

Considering you use 250k drive and level pots along with 15n OD1 cap, do you have any excess bass on the lower strings, especially on OD without PAB ?
