Playing wise I can not over recommend the program Amazing slow downer http://www.ronimusic.com/.
This thread is about a Santana amp kit. Not about recommended software that can be purchased to slow down music. I don't know what that has to do with an amp kit?

In the interest of fairness, you can download Winamp and the Pacemaker plugin for free if you want to slow down music for some reason. I wouldn't pay $50 for the Amazing slow downer when I could have essentially the same thing for free. :)

If you find a MKI at affordable price, well go on, yes ! for you - beginner in tube circuits - it is a bit simpler than the MKIIA due to its "single channel" operation. I would say that sometimes you find MKI and IIA in the same ballpark, but usually the MKI brings more because it is Santana-related.

Nonetheless, MKI and MKIIA really have the Santana tone - If it's what you are searching, like I was - you won't be disappointed, trust me...

Hi Anthony,

The link works this time - good choice - so go for it !
Even the price is correct as is. It's a pity that this amp is not in EU...

You won't be deceived : it has the tone you're waiting for (the best of the original MKIs, which were not always consistent), it's recent, so no "tube amp troubleshooting hassle" in sight...

I answered you about the MKI RI in your Concert II thread.

Good Luck !

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy the amp. Do yourself a favor and don't use those wheels unless you want a premature failure.

thanks! I tried the amp and it's amazing!! It's the tone I been wanting!! So I should take the casters off? How can they harm the amp? Is it by dragging it on them? I won't be moving it; it just sits there on them! Thanks!

Good ! Good ! Good ! :D :D :D

Yes you should. I know that some will disagree, but the casters are always unstable - the amp may roll alone or worse : fall front or back - I have seen that and serviced several "caster-fallen" amps : a real pity...

Put it on its original big rubber feets, offer him a padded cover (1/2" damping) if you sometimes use it outside home, and lift it, handle it... Yes, it's heavy, I know, but it is way more safe than rolling it on the street ground macadam which gives very bad vibrations to all the amp and his tubes. Moreover, if you have to walk through stairs with your amp (as often), any casters are completely useless. Trust me, casters are less practical than it seems on this kind of amp... It would be better to use a trucker chariot (a "diable" in French) with inflated wheels, some of them are cheap and foldable (I am thinking to buy one next).

My MKIIA in Hardwood version + EVM12L + FSW and matching cables, loaded in its flycase "lite", weights 43,5kg (96lbs).

My MKIIA in Tolex version + Eminence ME12-100 PE8 + FSW and matching cables, protected by its damping cover, weights 22,5kg (50lbs).

I am in a big Soul / Rhythm'n'Blues / 70's band where we have the chance to have kind and tough young musician guys who gently take care and carry my amp for me... Nice...

They prefer to carry it in the flycase, no matter the weight, because its more protected and most of all they carry it by two guys. In the Tolex version, I can afford to carry it by myself if needed (for how long again :? ?)...

A+!
If it works, don't fix it...

hey thanks again for all that great info! so what would be the typical known issues? in otherwords would I know if the casters caused harm to the amp? the wheels seem like they seen better days? there somewhat torn? I took the whole thing apart and did not noticed any issues? like loose parts. I have taken the advice to remove them, my amp sits on its 4 rubber feet; which are brand new, since they were never used. yes this things are heavy; its nice to have helpers, especially for the hundred pounders! well thanks again! really appreciate the insight! :D

MKI has that cascaded pre-amp, its diode biased with a gain control before a TMB and vol., the following stages that accomplish the reverb are also followed by the amps master and can be over driven too. you can see the gain process developing in later models. Any body try the MKI pre as a mod?

For newer Santana tones he talked about a Marshall head that he brought to all of the studios around the time of Supernatural in a Guitar Player interview. In the mid 2000's he was seen playing a Two Rocks at many gigs and then he got into real Dumbles.

quick question? the fuse on my mark 1 blew? I don't know why? it was on, hook to the guitar and was ready to play but all the sudden I heard somewhat of a noise from the speakers and the amp just went dead? I took the fuse off and sure enough it was blown? what could be cause? I'm thinking power tubes? can the preamp tubes cause this? how can I be sure? anyway of testing them? thanks!

One of the first things that I'd do on a used amp is to make sure that it was the correct fuse, ie, was there a fast-blow in a slow-blow application, correct amperage rating.

Wow bummer that you are having problems already on your amp.

First thing to do is replace the fuse with the proper rated slo blo fuse and try the amp again.
Sometimes the fuses get weak over time.

If it blows again, then you have more serious problems.

I think this amp has SS rectifier right?

If so then pull the power tubes, replace fuse and try it again.
If it does not blow the fuse then it's most likely one of the power tubes is shorted out.
Replace and rebias.

If it blows the fuse again then you have more serious problems and should probably consult with a amp tech.

Don't let that smoke out!
