stereo output amps
Has any one messed around with this. I'm pretty impressed with the trentino amp. Maybe building something simple like a stereo champ amp. two 6v6's sharing the preamp but using two seperate OT's. does this seem dumb.

Re: stereo output amps
That's how tube stereos were done back in the day. I've pulled apart both single-ended and push-pull stereo amps for parts. Gibson did some stereo guitar amps after stereo recording came out in the '50s. The question is, what do you want it for? Stereo is for reproduction, and a guitar amp is a sound producer, not really a reproducer. To get a proper stereo effect, you need different sound coming out of different channels, and you need your speakers placed properly in the room. Some guys say they use stereo rigs in clubs, but getting the sound right for the audience must be very difficult. Only the people in the middle of the room would really get the effect. On the other hand, a sound man can move sound around from side to side easily at the board.
Re: stereo output amps
I was actually wanted to build a v-front cab with two twelves. Start with a simple output supply with a pair of 6v6's. Voice each output differently.

I forgot to add this link. There are schematics to stereo amps.

Re: stereo output amps
I've been intrigued by the stereo concept, too. Combining dissimilar output tubes might yield interesting results--6V6 on one side and EL84 on the other, both SE--kind of a stereo Champ. My true stereo fantasy is a big stereo 4x10 with cathode biased power sections--6L6 on one side thru a high-headroom OT and EL34 thru a low headroom OT, each driving ceramic & alnico Tone Tubbies. Big, big tone, I imagine.

Re: stereo output amps
I guess what I meant was an amp with a quad set of 6v6's, each pair having its own output tranny. Maybe using a Brown princeton PI and a Brown Deluxe PI. Both ouputs using the same preamp.

Stereo Pickups
For true stereo you also need either a stereo pickup, or, on a two pup guitar, one pup into each amp channel. The latter is not too hard to arrange, the former would need either a delicate mod to an existing pup or a new specially wound pup.
I got into amp building thru pickup building and although I haven't built any pups in a year or so, I have built and repaired over 300 pups and have all the equipment and materials on hand. Attached is a pic of my winder, which theoretically can wind three at a time.
For example, a humbucker made with a pair of bifilar wound coils, which would be essentially two humbuckers in one case, would do the trick. Wound like a burstbucker ie unmatched coils, some tonal variations are possible. Two of this humbucker would have multiple possibilities.
If anyone's interested, let me know.

Re: stereo output amps
I was really looking for a fatter sound not true stereo. I do like the idea of stereo pickups. thanks for the replies. I keep everyone updated on the amp build.

Re: stereo output amps
Look at the Tone King comet - dual 6V6 output sections. all 4 switched in for cleanish, one set disabled by foot switch and the level pumped up on the other for fatter tone. All levels changeable.
