Cap Can change

Post by 72fetter »

wondering if i can lose all these cap cans and just get a similar setup to a jcm800 (two 50+50 cans)
I am running a much higher voltage output and power trannie than specified anyways

Not enough information to answer your question. Need MORE details, please.
Wife: How many amps do you need?

sure.
I have the standard tw express 30 uf+47uf+47uf setup as well as the 3 22uf voltage capacitors.
I am wondering if i can clean up my setup by reducing my layout to a simple marshall esque 50+50 cap can setup.

my diagrams for my trannis is attached

Can caps are used pretty frequently here. Search for some of Dana Hall's express/liverpool combos for very clear and detailed pics using JJ 20/20/20/40 and a 50/50.

As far as your secondary voltage goes, that's too high to preserve authentic express mojo. May still sound cool but won't be a trainwreck. You could add a few zener's to the center tap to drop voltage. You could install a VVR and limit the max voltage to around what a trainwreck would run at.

The normal secondary for a trainwreck is 100V lower than that transformer so you need to lose some serious voltage.

Can Caps for a Wreck

Post by RJ Guitars »

Ah Ha just posted this otherwise... I did this on a Rocket build.

Can #1 = 32uf + 32uF in parallel to get 66uF (close enough to 80uf??)

Can # 2 = 40uF + 20uf +20uF +20Uf

Clean and neat...

Yeah man, run a fat octal output section like KT66/KT88 or something. I made a rocket with KT66 with about 370V on the plates, it's loud and clean.

Bigger iron, but at some point it won't fit in the standard Wreck configuration. The answer usually ends up looking something like the Komet layout.

The 66 Rocker see thread.

Or a Dr. Z Route 66 uses KT66 with 375v secondary PT.
