I have been looking at & considering building the 97 ods, (the humble schematic see schematic heaven) which seems a simpler "no frills" design,
how does this stack up to the earlier 60s & 70S models, any thoughts?

There are a few errors on that schematic. If you want an HRM (i.e., a 90's amp) start with the ODS-101 schematic in the files section.
Re: 97 ods
+1 for Dave's comment. I built one and was sadly dissapointed. Until I came here and listened to the folks who know Dumbles I never had a decent sounding amp.
Use the ODS-101HRM for a 90's Dumble amp, you'll love it.

Re: 97 ods
I built that amp (the Humble Overdraft Specimen) before I ever new this site existed. I had an old burned out Laney 30watt chassis and PT that I wanted to use for a project and thought that looked like an interesting circuit. I tweaked the circuit for 6V6's. I eventually wound up using CL1 and CL2 from the tweaked D'Lite layout and left the OD as per the '97 schem. While it is inaccurate as per what HAD would do or has done, IMHO it actually sounds pretty cool. Very Marshally in a very controllable way. I just thought the idea of having the additional tonestack for the OD on trim pots was cooler than flying cars! However, if I had it to do all over again knowing what I know now, I would probably go with the ODS-101HRM for a 90's style.
But BEWARE! Once you go down this path there are so many different D Style models that it's kinda like Lays potato chips, no one can build just one.
Have fun!

Ditto that, I've build a NON HRM in the vein of #124 (low plate, skyliner), which sounds great for blues. And now I want a High plate, skyliner (with switchable post OD tonestack) AND a Bluesmaster.crbowman wrote: But BEWARE! However, building a premium amp is close to 1500 USD each
