Hey Tom, I can't speak for all Canadians, and I don't mean any offence, but I would rather pay the extra shipping costs.
Danotron, some good ideas there. I have used copper clad for pedal circuits that I etch myself, but it's only 1/16 thick. Can this be used in an amp? Also the smallest eyelets I've found in craft stores etc have a 3/16 hole in them. Is this what you're using?
Hey Danotron, how are you getting the copper off the boards without etching? Where are you getting the eyelets locally? The smallest I've found are 3/16 and they look a bit too big. Thanks.

Ha!
That's great you love your country.
Everybody loves to hate on America.
But those same people would line up for 5 miles just to live here.
It's funny, I belong to several guitar forums and the Canadians are always saying, we can't get this or we can't get that.
So I guess you'll just have to make due with what you have up there.
When I was a kid we took a trip up through BC and over to Alberta.
Beautiful country for sure.
Vancouver island was cool as well.
I wouldn't try to tell anybody where the best place to live is, but as a Canadian who lived & worked for 10 years in California, I must say that America was very very good to me.
Canada ain't the shopping Mecca that the US is, but it is getting better for amp building enthusiasts and I have to give props to companies like Mouser and Digikey who make it easy and cost effective to buy from. (Curses on McMaster-Carr for refusing to ship to Canada at ANY cost! )

+1 on Mouser and Digikey. Newark are great too. Yesterday morning I ordered some stuff from Newark on their Canadian site and it showed up at my house this morning, all the way from SC, and via UPS (now THAT was a surprise!).
My wife and I lived in the States for 24 years before moving back to Canada on a corporate transfer six months ago. We are both dual citizens and we like both countries a lot, except as you get older Canada's west coast is easier to deal with in the winter. This accounts for the housing prices here in BC, unfortunately.

They did tell me that they supplied a few long standing Canadian customers with garolite, but wouldn't say who they were so I could buy from them. Very odd considering Mcmaster-Carr has a Canadian shipping option on their site. Needless to say they weren't very helpful and I didn't try again. ymmv.
Yes this is a very frustrating aspect of living in the "great white north." Sometimes hard to believe Canada is the US' largest trading partner with all the difficulties imposed by the two postal services, two currencies and two interpretations of the "free trade" agreement!
I got a great laugh out of that! And, couldn't agree more.
As a Canadian living/working abroad, I can relate to what you've said.
I've been working in Portugal for the past 6 years... and, although it's a beautiful country... I could write a book with all the hassles I've had due to shipping/int'l customs agencies... import/export... Portuguese Postal Service, insurance issues, Canadian Embassy bureaucracy... international trade agreements... Importation Taxes...
What a mess!
Cheers,
Rob

As for in the UK ( perhaps in the States/Canada as well) try your local aeromodeling shop. I buy mine from ours..... 1/8 in. thick x @ 6in x @ 12in. for £7 (@ $10 US). Its good stuff!!
