Hi Stilllearning!
First of all: It`s an amazing tone in that deluxe reverb...
It has the right style, the right decals etc etc.
However, if it`s not a genuine Dumble, it`s not worth more than a modified deluxe reverb, and those parts doesn't cost more than 500-700$..

I believe that Every one here feels that reverse engineering is a little cheating, but no one here would attempt to make a authentic replica AND try to sell it as a genuine amp to make 12.000$...

Good points one and all, but having played it in person (albeit 13+ years ago) it had 'it'.

Something that most other clone amps (and even some other Dumbles) just don't have.

I simply do not see the point of saying its fake when so many things say it is not. Including me, if I have to go on record.

It seems odd that one person will go out of their way to slam someone else with absolutely no facts, or evidence.
(any comment Hotrod Ford? are you the Mystic Blues clone guy?)

Even if it were a run of the mill modded deluxe, it is worth more than $500 it would seem.

And its worth much more than 20,000 being a Dumble.

It sounded, looked, felt, smelled, like a Dumble, and had the total vibe of the real deal when I played it.

It does have a different control layout than most others Dumbles, but I'm sure that is for the inclusion of the trem and reverb.

Since I don't build, I can't say, but it seems likely that this is the reason.

Having owned two ODS amps , I swear that the little OD Dlx was the tone that I wish I had gotten out of the first one and never even got close to out of the second.

I just checked out the ebay auction for it and all the concerns about the switches, changed parts, etc, are addressed pretty well and concisely in the description. About what you would expect for any amp thats from the same era.
The pics are pretty good, and the seller even went to the length to obscure the internal circuit pic.

I don't think a seller on ebay with a perfect feedback score would knowingly sell a forgery. Which to me says alot.

I'm out on a limb, and am gonna say it is real and somebody with some baltics is going to be very happy if they bite.

Folks here are making amps, Dumble is making art.. That is the big difference.
Like Claude Monet had students, learning every paint stroke, nobody ever managed to create the same art, then or since... (And I believe that the same story will sadly repeat it self here.)
However, It is unfair if someone puts a masters signature on a piece of art in order to make a quick buck.

In this case, the Master is well and alive, and should protect his name if he comes across (even good) replicas. Maybe HAD could create a list.. It would have been much easier for collectors, and good reading for us? :D

Newbie here...

I'm still out on it...
Once again, good points, but its like Gibson; who knows what all they really made and experimented with?

This amp may be the equivalent of the 'Moderne'...

Is there one somewhere?
No one can prove there is, but more importantly, no one can prove there isn't...

I still say it looks and sounds too right to not be right.
Different yes, but it sounds amazing and looks the part.

Will keep digging.

Folks, I do believe that this is clearly a FAKE. The ad was pulled because Dumble himself notified ebay that it was a fake. Look at both the wiring and the fonts. Fake. Fake. Fake.

And a bad one at that.

In the interest of fair play

Post by samekeyithink »

As I said before, I'm new here and have been reading and learning alot.
Don't want to ruffle any feathers, but I think I'm with the stillearning poster.

I don't know if the amp in question is legit or not, but it looks and sounds alot closer than what I'm reading from the nay sayers in this post.

When evaluated closely with pictures of the only other Overdrive Deluxe I can find - the Rob Livesey site -

http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/s ... %20Deluxe/

the face type matches almost exactly. In fact it IS exact if you ask me.

It is most certainly a different layout, but the control lettering looks the same.
If its a fake, I would say that it's a GREAT fake.
How would you make it look so old and road worn? You can do it, but who among you can't tell the difference between a REAL beat up old strat and a new 'Reliced' strat? Just me being open minded.

And I have to ask as well, how do we know that Dumble blew the whistle?
And no offense intended, but how do we know that any of you are really in touch with Mr. Dumble as you claim?
It seems a bit far fetched that he is in contact with anyone outside his world.

Anyway I will follow this post and the auction for curiosity if nothing else.

Thanks!

Well, nobody will probably buy it on here, but it does sound really good.
A foreign collector may bite, you never know.

I checked out your Red Plate Amps site. Great stuff! Do you do kits as well?

Not at this time, haven't really considered it. Brown Note does such a great job for a quality kit and also Ceratone for the budget conscious.

Wow, it was a cool place till everyone showed their fangs.
It seems like everyone is so dismissive and matter of fact.
In my book that is defined as rude.

So I ask myself, why would I want to be part of this 'club'?
I guess I don't.
It borders on the religion/political/cult mind set.

Not for me.

Maybe you all should lighten up some. It's supposed to be fun.
I thought it was a place to discuss, not tear apart other people.

And by the way, I have played most of the clone amps including almost all of the builders that sell on here.
And you know what?

They all pale in comparison to the 'Fake' OD Dlx on YouTube.

Good day and goodbye.

...Red plate, I will email you directly. Thanks...

Who was rude? Two members here personally corresponded with Dumble and confirmed fake. I see no fangs other than negativity displayed towards Tommy C. Tommy is a real asset to the community and builds terrific sounding amps.

Please let us knwo which clones you played. I know for a fact you could not have played many of the current crop that is available.

Btw, I agree with you regarding the fonts. They do look the same. It is the wiring that is way different. Plus the denial from Dumble that it was made by him.

I suppose there is a miniscule chance it is real, but with Dumble denying he built it, that changes the game.
