Speaker enclosure tuning help requested..

Post by dobbhill »

I have a couple of existing 1 x 12" enclosures that I wish to re-tune for different speakers. They are designed for Celestion V30's, which I don't have. I have a JBL G125, and a re-coned K120 that I'd like to fit in the box. I have all the T/S parameters for the drivers, and the dimensions and existing port tuning info. I was hoping to modify the ports to accomodate the replacement speakers. I would just put a V30 in there, but I'm not fond of the mid balance...always an option, though.
Is there any reasonable/free software available that will help me re-tune the ports for this project? I have played with WinSD some, but not a real clue as to what I should do.
When I just pop the G125 in there, it sounds great, except the bass dies at about 120~Hz. I'm spoiled by the bass response in my Altec 417C x2 in a Dumble oval back 2x12": my standard.
Thanks for looking.

I had a program that calculated internal box volume and port specs but I can't find it right now on my PC.
I know it was a freeware type program so you can probably google for it.

You have to enter all the specs for the speaker so you need those to do it.

If you're not building from scratch, this should get you in the ballpark;

If you build one from scratch the math is pretty easy with T/S.

Smaller, longer = lower.

You may be able to get there by ear.
