Voltage doubler for bias question

Post by Bob-I »

It turns out that with the Peavey iron I only have 40VAC for the bias supply, not quite enough. I'm thinking that I can use a voltage doubler for this supply and I used the Duncan power supply designer to create this doubler. The only issue is that the PSU doesn't allow me to create a negative supply.

How does this look?, squeezing it into my current board. AC in on the right, ground on the wire going down.

We are talking about 40VAC? Yealds 56VDC for bias maybe a bit more?

I have a scheme I worked out years ago for regulated screen supply on transmitter modulators. Really cleans up vocal audio. You could get your supply off of B+ that way. It's just a zener diode string driving a fat high voltage Darlington transistor.

If you don't like sand state you could build up something with O tubes>

By the way, voltage doublers are flabby as hell. You may have a problem with farts.

You know Dan, I musta had a brain fart. You're right, I'm getting about 52VDC so it's fine.
