Hot bias

Post by philmanatee »

I read one of the posts where geetarpicker was saying you could bias an express really hot and not redplate the tubes. I'm here to tell you that is very true. Due to an unplanned lack of time I was unable to bias my amp after I had swapped power tubes at practice last week. I had to work Saturday then load up and race to a gig 2 hours away. I couldn't hear my amp very well at the gig due to anumber of factors. Tonight at practice the amp wouldn't clean up as much as I wanted, so when the guys took a smoke break I popped the amp out of the chassis. The voltage was 388 and the bias current was 77ma! It sure is nice to have an amp thats as forgiving as that. I reset to 395 volts with 42ma and it was much more dynamic and cleaned up much nicer. Phil
