Two new Hi-Gain Builds w/Clips

Post by gldtp99 »

1) modern-voiced JCM 800-based 50 watt head--- Heyboer JMP/JCM PT, Dagnall OT from 1987xl (got cheeeep from the'bay---somebody's "upgrade" cast-off OT  )--- has Power Damping added. Pics soon.

2)Sound City 120-to-SLO lead channel conversion----gutted a SC 120, using orig Partridge iron (+ Merc Mag 10H choke)----new turret boards, tube sockets, almost everything else----- running 4 x EL34 vs orig amp's 6 x EL34----still very powerful---- CDE 381LX and F&T filter cap cans----Shuguang EL34B's--- premium old stock pre tubes (killer Chinese 12ax7 in V1, Phillips in V2 & V3, Mullard I63 in PI).

Nice clips. What mods are on the JCM 800 other than the VVR?

I wondered when someone was going to mention the OD715's- -- i have quite a few of them from when i first started working on amps----i thought they were the "best" because i read it in some book back then----i don't use them in the Vintage/Classic Rock amps i usually build, polyester caps are what i use---i've used most of the popular brands.
This new Hi-Gain amp direction gives me a chance to use up some of the OD715's i have---- Polypropylene caps and metal film resistors (as many values as i have on hand) seem to be the way to go in the Hi-Gain world---i might actually buy more metal films if this keeps up- ...........................gldtp99
