Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
I've been using an Eminence Private Jack in a cab built by Bob Burt. The PJ sensitivity is 101. Good, broad spectrum.
Plan next to drop in an Eminence Wizard. It's more effecient, at 103. A bit more treble, with a tighter bottom.
BTW, the BB cab is one I spec'ed for him to build. It replicates the precise dimensions and ports of a Shiva combo cab.

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
I've heard a lot of good things about those Burt cabs.
Is your cab a barn pine wood cab?
He built one out of really old barn wood for a friend of mine.
Looks and sounds great!

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
It's tolex-covered new pine. Wanted to replicate all the characteristics of the Shiva cab. Was very tempted tho. His work is just outstanding.
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
The clips help & I hear a lot of potential in those clips BTW!!
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
just sorted out some parallel wiring for two newish 16 ohm 12" Greenbacks in epiphone Valve Junior extension cabinets. Not bad at all - an improvement on the V30 in an open backed cab. Impressive amount of bass in this amp! Seems almost ridiculous for its size.
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
So am I understanding you right? You went from a v30 open back to a couple of closed back 1 x 12s with greenbacks?gary wrote:just sorted out some parallel wiring for two newish 16 ohm 12" Greenbacks in epiphone Valve Junior extension cabinets. I have a Marshall 1936V which has 2 x 12 V30s and think it sounds great with my Lil Devil. I also played it through a 1x10 Celestion V10-40 Silver Series mounted in a Little Lanilei closed back cab by Songworks. Sounds weak but better for late night practice with lower volume.gary wrote:just sorted out some parallel wiring for two newish 16 ohm 12" Greenbacks in epiphone Valve Junior extension cabinets. The epiphone 1x12 cabs have a 6" square cut-out on the back panel, so they're not fully closed. I just spliced a couple of home-made speaker cables together to parallel the two 16 ohm cabs.
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Is it possible to mod this amplifier somehow so it can also accept 16Ohm speakers?
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Not without changing the OT. You can safely run a 16 ohm speaker on the amp. 4 ohm might be a bit much but 16 ohm should work without damaging the amp.MCK wrote:Is it possible to mod this amplifier somehow so it can also accept 16Ohm speakers?
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Super! Thanks for letting me know. My V30's measure about 14Ohms on my Fluke anyways so closer to 8 than 16.
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
You are measuring DC resistance of the speaker coil when you measure it with an ohm meter. That will be a little bit different than the AC impedance of the speaker. For example, a speaker with a 4 ohm impedance will usually measure about 3.2 ohms resistance. A 8 ohm speaker will measure about 6 ohms resistance and a 16 ohm , as you found out will measure about 14 ohms.MCK wrote:Super! Thanks for letting me know. Great to know my V30's are regulation 16Ohms then! I'm educated once again. Thanks much! You should have charged me extra for all the knowledge!
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Does the kit or production amp come in a combo version, where the chassis would be flipped around with the tubes and iron hanging from the bottom?
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
No, I had plans for a combo version but after trying a couple of prototypes I decided to do a 1x 12 cab and the head. I had the chassis mounted like the old Fender tweed amps (verticle) with the controls on the top back of the cab.dayn wrote:Does the kit or production amp come in a combo version, where the chassis would be flipped around with the tubes and iron hanging from the bottom?
