audioguild amp

does anyone know anything about audioguild amps? they are from the 60's and dies off shortly after. (thats all i know) i have a 100 watt tube combo amp and i cant find for the life of me any info on them. i think the ohms for the transformer, tubes, and speaker is messed up because im getting limited power for a 100 watt amp. anyone have any info at all that they can divulge would be excellent.

thanks for the reply and the info. i think it will help. the speaker and the transformers both seem stock, the only other thing i could think of would be the parts you mentioned and the tubes put in it. i think they are a higher gain and a different impedance than what my speaker and transformers are. currently i don't have my amp with me but come Saturday i can get the tube info.

I had one! Certainly an infrequently seen amp: I found it in Santa Cruz answering an ad for a dif. amp.

Magnatone! That explains why it had the nice Magnatone-type vibrato.

It had two 7591s [or some other hard-to-find pwr. tubes] and sounded real sweet. The box was chambered; maybe for the woofer in one partition, smaller speaker in the other?

Fifteen or so years ago I had a short conversation with a guy from an ad in the VG mag classifieds. I think he was an ex-employee looking for more info....maybe amps.

i guess the biggest question is does anybody know the impedance of one of these amps? i dont have any of that info so i cant replace the speaker ever (if i ever wanted to) and i cant change the tubes.

If the speaker is original, it might be marked, or if not, disconnect and measure with a DVM directly on ohms. It won't be spot on 16, 8, or 4 (because resistance is only part of the impedence), but close enough for you to tell. If it's not original, or is the cause of your problems, join that forum in Structos first link and just ask them.

As far as tubes, take it to a pro if you're not experienced with working on amps. Any good tech can replace and rebias correctly (if fixed bias).

Another possibiility is that the filter caps need replacement. They get old after 10-15 years.

where did you find these?

That gives me an idea of what to go with my Estey organ amp as the chassis is long and narrow like that one and I like the quality of that cabinet beefy.
