JUst want some advice . I changed the.047 to a .022 russian paper in oil on what I have labeled as mid-vibrato channel and it it opened it up big time. I just want to make sure Im on the right path before I do any tweaks.

Thanks!!! I''ll include another blank pic. so if its wrong if you feel like fixing it you can.

The labeling on the upper photo looks good. And I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the results of your mod. It's always encouraging when an experiment goes well, isn't it? :D

Yes! It is rewarding-especially because if I didnt have access to you tech guys that are willing to help I'd have to drop it off with whoever and not really know if Im getting the right thing done. There is one guy who knows what he's doing in town. It takes a long time to get your stuff back and he never tells you what he did but I do go to him if it has to be fixed right.

I just wanted to try that one nice cap and lower the mid cap like in a super reverb since its all I really have to work with. Its waaaay better to me now. before , I liked the ormal channel better which is strage but now even my wife noticed its just nicer. Less woofy. That one cap made it much more transparent.

Now if I can just get some different values in hand I can tweak this thing to my ears. Its also cool because for now I'll only do the vibrato channel so I can hear what it does. I know it wasnt the same before becasue of the extra gain stage but tonally the were similar to me.

Its fun following the wires and kind of figuring out yourself where they are connected to. Im not even close to a tech but with a little help I might become a decent tinkerer!

Now, Im trying to learn what the cathode caps are and bypass caps are and what they do. Im also trying to learn how the Sf and BF PI's differ and what all is involved.

Does anyone have a real pic of a BF or Sf amp that has labels over each cap/resistors that say what they do? Thats spretty grade school but Im just starting out and when guys say trem coupling cap or plate resistor I'll know where they mean. I am trying to learn this stuff though. I just started working on my own amps recently.

Thank you for your help solderstain!

I don't know if you want to get into this yet, but if you really want to reduce the low-end woof in your Pro, another step to take is to swap out the output transformer for something MUCH more stout. The OT in a Pro is compact, and it's a commonly-known upgrade to swap out the OT for a BF/SF Bassman version. I did that with my Pro-to-Bassman conversion.

This picture shows the original Pro OT on the left and a BIG OT on the right. In this exact case, it's a Fender OT designed for a Blues Deville. I used it instead of a true 'Bassman' OT for a couple of reasons - 1) It was free (gifted to me by another amp-builder friend), 2) It has multiple taps on the secondary, which I wanted. The point is that you can see how much more iron and winding you get. The improvement in low-end clarity was IMMEDIATE!

As I said, it may be more than you want to do right away, but I promise that this is one of those mods that produces an IMMEDIATE AND NOTICEABLE improvement. Just putting a bug in your ear to keep your eyes peeled for a working Bassman OT during your travels. Bye-bye woofiness.

I've ben thinking about that upgrade for sometime now. Its definitely gonna get done asap.

What do you think putting a .047 prange drop for the .1 bass cap on the vibrato channel would do?

Would it evicerate the bass or just make it have some range before 2? Now the amp can NEVR be over 3 but is usually on 2. I dont really care what the number says. Id just like to clean the amp up.

I was going thru my stuff and noticed I have an unused orange drop .047 I could try there and I dont have much else to do except teach a guitar lesson in the afternoon.

Im gonna get a list of some caps together and place an order tomorrow though and might try it in the meantime unless you think its useless.

I want to get some higher pf treble caps to try too.

Also, Would you try a lower pf bright cap than the 120 pf in there now> At 120pf its TOO bright to me.

I was thinking maybe ordering a 33pf or 68 pf to try. whats the lowest I should try?

i'd like to find a value that does had some sparkle thats noticable but not painful. I'd hate to doa lot of work and not be able to hear an effect though .

Hello again -

Just my $.02 again, okay?

Based on what you said in the prior post, I'll suggest that you do the OT swap sooner rather than later. The small, original OT is part of what makes a Pro what it is, and lotsa people love 'em, but you're now making yours into 'something else', so there's no point in standing pat. A huskier OT will remove some of the limits that the current one poses. It's similar to massaging the engine of a high-performance car - the first step (after bigger brakes) is to put in an exhaust system that will let the engine breath freely and doesn't choke off all your subsequent cylinder head, cam and manifold work.
