Alessandro Pots

Post by aclempoppi »

Wondering about trying these in Blackface amps and Strat. If these are the same Canadian PEC pots used in Bad Cat amps, they seem to be too large for the sloped front of the fender chassis, don't know. But for the Strat , that may not be an issue. Biilyz posted in another topic, that he used them in a Nocaster. So maybe he can shed some light on the subject. Any way, if you folks have any experience with these pots, I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks Art

The Allesandro pots for guitar are of a smaller diameter to fit the guitar cavity. You can solder to the back as well. Also, He has some made with splined split shafts for the strat or Gibson guitars. The Solid shafts are fine for Telecasters. They are made for him by PEC in Canada. The regular PEC pots are good amplifiers, but I have not tried to fit them in a Fender or any other amp. I only use them in my custom builds.

I contacted PEC about some special pots and they will do them, but the cost is high. So Allesandro's are no more expensive. I get them from Ce Electronics , who are also now carrying the PEC pots too, at $7.95 ea.

Thanks for your info you guys! Billyz I'll check out CE electronics. What kind of pickups are you installing in your custom guitars? I just have mid level Lindy Fralins Vintage pickups in my '89 Am Std Strat, but they seem to get the job done. Hey, Hitchcaster, have you tried the PEC pots in any Fender amps? Never heard about Jim Wagner pots, I'd appreciate any info and experience you might have to offer about these. Thanks Art

My local electronics house has PEC pots packaged by NTE.
Those are some nice pots for sure. Sealed and seem really well made.

But my guy charges $10 each for them......

I was at Fry's recently and they sell the NTE PECs for $6.95. They were all linear though.

For some strange reason Linear PEC pots are cheaper than Audio. I buy all the pots I can get Fry's to stock, in Linear that is. I have never seen 1 meg audio there though. The Jim Wagner WCR pots are CTS I believe, selected as they vary quite a bit in value. I was at Collings guitar factory and they were sorting all the CTS pots for value. And then using them to compensate for Bright or Dark sounding guitars. Higher values went into the Dark ones lower value into the bright ones.

the Alessandro Guitar pot are are rated for 1 W not 2 W as the Regular PEC's are. Hence the smaller diameter to fit into more guitar cavities.

I suppose you know that you have to be a dealer to buy from there.

I just got a bunch of audio taper PECs. I'm not crazy about how it feels when you turn it. It feels kinda rough. The Bourns pot I've tried feel better when you turn it. How are the PECs that you guys have used?

I've tried some surplus PEC equivalents and those are very smooth.

Maybe that's just the way they are? I was thinking maybe I got a bad batch or something. I was all excited about getting them cuz I really liked the feel of the surplus pots I got. Was hoping the same for these PECs.
