Hi Normster

Post by mat »

I would like to ask couple of questions for You because next week I'm hopely starting to buy parts for my first Dclone based on Your bassman layout:

[img:1465:846]http://bad-domain/Pics/Bassman_Dclone_LayoutV3.jpg[/img]

1) Does these specs seem to be right for the powertransformer: 230V//345-0-345V 0,210A/6,3V 8A / 55V 0.02A ?

2) Would You recommend a hammond, fender or marshall OT for the project ? That is for looking for the Ford\dogears sound.

What kind of OHMage should the first side of the OT be (3400ohm,4200ohm..) ?

3) For the powerfilterboard I thought to use (again) Your design:

[img:400:303]https://tubeamparchive.com/files/thumbs ... v3_154.jpg[/img]

Is the B6 for relay switchers, and does the B5 go to 2 places on the preampboard (according for the preamp layout CL1,2 and reverb)?

4) Did You use a standard Fender reverb transformer ?

and with what kind of reverbpan should I look after ?

I know this is one tube reverb but would You think that long delay-pan would work with this design ?

Thank You Very Much,

That should work OK. I used that layout to build a Dumble into an old Bassman chassis. I think the Bassman power tranny is 320-0-320V.
2) Would You recommend a hammond, fender or marshall OT for the project ? That is for looking for the Ford\dogears sound.

Again, it was the old Fender output tranny. I'm not sure what the primary resistance is.

I haven't built that particular board yet. I just used the Bassman board and replaced the caps with 2x100uF and 4x20uF. On the Bassman, I just tapped off of B5 because it seemed to be enough to power the reverb recovery AND drop the V1 plate voltage a little. (Much like Dogears recommending 180K to ground to compensate for no FET.) The reason for the extra B+ on the new design is to add filtering to the reverb tube.
4) Did You use a standard Fender reverb transformer?

Yes, just a Fender reverb tranny. As for the pan, I used a medium delay because that's all that was available in a short pan. If you have room for a full 17" pan, you might want to try the long delay. As for the pan type, take a look on Glasman's site. (www.glaswerks.com) One of his build articles has the pan number. Maybe he'll drop into this thread. Either way, I highly recommend browsing through Gary's site.

Thanks Normster for Your answers !

So I bought today almost all parts 8) I'm going to start to make the turretboard tomorrow.

Two novice question regarding the layout. Shouldn't the 7 (blue) electrolytics be other way around ?

There is two yellow coded resistors going in the reverb tube. Just curious to know why they are yellow on the layout.

thank You,

Mat,

Several things you need to do here, IMO

1) OD level pot is linear not audio.
2) Midpot is a 250ka
3) I would recommend trying a .01 midcap. You can always go back to .047, or use a .02 like some Dumbles.
4) Measure your caps! Pick a treble cap that gives you a hair less than 330pf. Some Dumbles had 270pf!
5) Measure your pots!! Choose a treble pot that is over 250k. Make sure your OD pots are in tight spec.
6) If you have no FET, you may need to hang a 150k to 220k resistor to ground off of the last resistor in the dropping string. This simulates the FET and will get you the 200v on the plates that sounds good.
7) I was serious about measuring your caps and pots! I adjust my resistors accordingly if I must. For example, if my OD drive pot measures 95k, I use a 105k series resistor to feed it.

Good luck!!

Hi dogears,

Sorry but I was not clear when making the questions. I have followed Your suggestions when buying the parts :D

1) OD pot is 100Klin

2) midpot is 250KA

3) midcap is 0.01u

4) luckily I have capacitance meter (I have habbit to measure every part just before they get soldered)

What kind of wattage ratings should the (7) ceramic caps have ?

5) All right, will do that

6) No fet for now (will have in future) I'm little unsure what place should the 180K to be put on ? Somewhere here:
[img:400:303]https://tubeamparchive.com/files/thumbs ... v3_154.jpg[/img]

6) I'll measure everything and make the needed adjustments

Any idea of my polarity question of the 1u and 5u caps on The layout ?

Big Thanks,
mat

Mat,
All caps were reversed, including the presense cap. :( (I "flipped" the image in Visio but it maintained the same text orientation.)

I just posted the correction so the thumbnail in this thread now points to the corrected version. Sheesh, I hope nobody wired all their caps backwards because of this!
