Hey All,
Is there any way to tighten the receptacle pins in the tube sockets? I have a couple of sockets with pins so loose that if weren't for the retainer they would fall right out! This can't be good.
Cheers, Mike

Re: Loose Tube Socket
Yes, I use a small fine point awl an or a small jewelers flat tipped screw driver to gently bend the metal clips back together.
Re: Loose Tube Socket
be VERY careful.. some sockets are easy to retension, like in fender type amp sockets.. the marshall type are a bit different. But be carefull, one of the worst shocks i ever got was doing this on a fender amp.
The amp had been off for a couple days..and was also unplugged. BUT.. did not check the voltage, being in somewhat of a rush,it was hot,and i was a little sweaty..lol
I also had a tool that had electrical tape insulation on it,so not to touch the metal part. but the tape had slid off the end.
Also like a dummy..i had my other hand holding the PT.. i was good on a few of the pins..then pin 3.. WHAM!! One i won't forget..
I should have checked this amp for voltage..but didn't.. thats what happens when you do things for years, and just seem to get used to it.
After looking at the caps under the pan, someone years before, removed the bleeder resistors.. So never go on what might or should be.. check and double check to be sure..Sometimes you learn the hard way..

Thanks Richie, I always , ALWAYS check for stored up voltage before poking around inside any amplifier. But then , I learned by electrocution. I suppose these public forums might have a certain liability attached to them and everything needs a disclaimer and warning .
I grew up before bicycle helmets and seat belts were invented. I also put a paper clip into an electrical outlet and did a bunch of other stupid things. Lucky I survived.

re-tentioning pins
Hello!
Sometimes it's easier to replace the bad pins. Lot of times there is a rectifier tube in the amp, with all the pins in it. I've been able to "borrow" the unused pins and then use them in the power tube sockets. I also keep a supply of 7 pin sockets around, these are less valuable to me, so I can rob the pins out of them too.

yep, that works too,and is a good idea. I'm glad i see others have done this toostubbyfex wrote:Hello!
