D'lator clone

Post by heisthl »

I was surfing the other day and stumbled across this schematic, interesting take on a D'lator:

Kinda hi-Z on the send stage doncha think? Have you seen one of these? might be a good candidate for modding.

Have not actually seen one. Curious as to what transformer they used, the simple filtering and the 10 ohm ground lift.

Pretty cool... I especially like the 1M load on the output to the PI.. If that's where it goes.. The 250K Dlator output pot although it works ok always thought it was a bit on the low side... The 1M would help with the loading a bit!! A homeboy observation

One thing that might be valuable in the tweakers bag 'o tricks would be their use of 2 cathode resistors in series with only one bypassed. Has anyone experimented with this?

Here's a pretty crummy gut shot...

There is a member on this list that owns one, maybe he will pop in and comment on the VOX.

Damn, that VOX was only 99.95 and NO ONE bought it. Wish I have seen it, you can't build one from scratch for that price.

The D'lator is essential in getting the typical D-sound we know form R. Ford and L. Carlton. Check out www.vanweelden.com This guy is building D'lator related stuff!!

As far as I understand the output impedance of a cathode follower is determined by the tube's transconductance only (see this link )http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard/accf.html. So the send impedance should be the same as with the dumbleator.
