12AX7 from EBAY

Post by Greg »

Are these good tubes? Anyone deal with whole tone music before?

When I finish the Donna Rocket I will need to use crap startup tubes to make sure "the smoke stays in" what should I get for that application? Cheap grove tubes?

Rocket BOM is Specific...

I just realized that the Rocket BOM is fairly specific on tubes to use. I will start there.

Don't buy tubes on eBay unless you know what you are doing. This is a classic example of something being sold for 2x retail. Look here:

These are not the gold pin variety.
Sure, shipping will be a bit more, but you won't pay, all in cost, anywhere near what that eBay auction will cost you.

Oh, and those gold pins are an audiophool thing. Gold pins won't make pigs fly, nor will they improve the tone of your amp.

AFA startup? Everyone should have a couple of Sovtek tubes. Not known for good tone, but they are reputed to have a very low noise floor and they sell fairly cheap. Probably around $8-9 each.

I ask that you forgive my cynical tone here. I've been a bit blunt and don't mean to be offensive, just making a point.
