Re: first post - first build - TW LP
Congrats!! It looks awesome. What is the knob on the back for?
Re: first post - first build - TW LP
Looks good, funny how fir can be used to make a nice cab huh.
That knob is the impedence selector would be my guess.

Thanks
. Yes that is the 4/8/16 ohm impedance selector. The knob looks different from the ones on the front because it is the Marshall-style that is supplied by Ceriatone. The front-type knobs (part 1510AH from mouser.com) didn't seem to have enough leverage to turn this rather stiff selector.

Cool
The different style knobs had me going there for a minute.
Re: first post - first build - TW LP
I wonder how Ceriatone's trannies stack up compared to the Heyboer set I got from Moose. I can't remember from past posts what the difference was on these, quality wise.
How does your LP sound?

Re: first post - first build - TW LP
It sounds good although the high gain and the brightness takes some getting used to. I can't really comment on the PT and the OT since I haven't had experience with any others. I find I need to roll back the tone on the guitar (Strat and Tele) a bit. I have been using a PodXT and sometimes a Boss BR-600 for effects and to help control the volume level. It sounds very good direct to the amp but it is also less forgiving playing wise.
I'm thinking of getting a Southbay/Scumback M75 or M75-LHDC (65 watt) and a Southbay 1x12 cabinet. I think that might tame the brightness a bit. Also I like the idea of the adjustable/hinged open/closed back on the cabinet.

Re: first post - first build - TW LP
Hey Dave, you'd be happy with the M75s. I just received two M75 65watters, and they sound terrific right out of the box. Much improved over the 25 watt greenbacks they replaced.CGP wrote:I'm thinking of getting a Southbay/Scumback M75 or M75-LHDC (65 watt) and a Southbay 1x12 cabinet. I actually prefer Jims H75s (heavier magnet), but you can't go wrong with either M75 or H75.

Nice cab!
Douglas Fir can be a great looking wood when you can find the straight tight grained boards.
Beautiful!

Re: first post - first build - TW LP
Thanks for the advice about the M75 and H75 speakers. I asked Jim at Southbay Ampworks for his recommendation. I'll post his reply when I receive it. Based on the specifications I was leaning toward the M75 over the H75 because of the lower efficiency (97db and 100db respectively). The large dust cap version (LHDC) is supposed to roll off the highs a bit. Of course nothing beats listening to the real thing.
As a side note I - somewhat impulsively - bought a Fane AXA12 and walnut cabinet off ebay. I wonder how it will sound with the TW clone? Most likely I'll still get the Scumback and compare the two.
Thanks for the complement on the cabinet. They seemed impressed with this piece of lumber at the lumber yard check out.

Re: first post - first build - TW LP
I'd suggest Jim's H55 HP with or without the large dust cone. They sound very good with 'wrecks.
Re: first post - first build - TW LP
I would suggest you build more trainwrecks.
Try the Rocket.
The cab even looks better in the new pictures.

I have to say that the Eminence Delta Pro in a closed box is what works best for me...
Cheap and made in the U.S.A.
Full, balanced, great rigid frame speaker.
