Anybody heard a 'Pure 64' speak cab? How about 'Austone'?

Post by rooster »

A friend emailed me from the TGP forum and asked if I had heard of the Pure 64 speaker cab. I hadn't. Has anybody run into one of these? They make two models, a 1/12 and a 2/12. The 1/12 - if it worked with an Express - would be of interest to me.

I did run into a 1/12 cab recently that had a speaker in it called the 'Austone 12'. It actually sounded pretty good with a variety of amps. Also, FWIW, the cab looked liked the Pure 64 1/12 but I didn't catch if it was actually a Pure 64 or something made by Austone.

Can somebody give me a clue? Thanks. 8)

Here's their website:

http://www.puresixtyfour.com/cabinets1x12.html

That's a lot of dough for a 1x12 cabinet!!!

(scratching head)

I don't remember where I saw these  but they look like a perfect match for that Wreck head cabinet you have.

Eric - You are always the gentleman. However, I have to agree with the other member - these cabs are way too expensive for what they appear to be.

I like that the seller says that he tried every cabinet out there - and then created his cab. Regardless of this apparent zeal, he still only spent $40 on wood and hardware - and knocked off a very typical looking cabinet. Labor deserves something, yes, but $600?

.........Now, if he goes on to walk on water, won't I feel foolish.

OH!! Sorry Eric, I wasn't logged in and I didn't see your cab. Yes, I agree, your cab looks like a beautiful fit. 8)

Like I said, this question comes from another person outside this forum who has read about these 64 cabs. Man, not too popular here I would say, eh?

I like the $600 for labor thing. Guess I should charge more, huh?

A certain Amp Garage member who shall remain unnamed thinks that mine are too expensive compared to another vendor who sells very low quality cabs. The other guy's cabs meet minimum standards for quality, they're a box you can mount a speaker in and they make sound.

Trying every cabinet out there is half the battle, I'd say the guy is a genius if he got what he wanted in the first half dozen tries or so.

Like anything else there's a trick to it. I can walk on water but I don't expect you to feel foolish. The river is frozen solid, the lake is frozen solid, the pond is frozen solid.

Your cabs look great. :)

When I shop around for a cabinet with tolex (I don't do tolex) I don't mind paying a little more for a product when I know the builder is good to work with. It's his loss, and he will find out, you get what you pay for and some times you don't get what you paid for and that pisses me off.

Your first clue is that the wood cab you played through was a Pure Sixty Four. Your second clue is that I've got one you can check out further

Personally, I'm blown away how good this cabinet sounds...damn near 4x12 big sounding. The other night I had my Aiken Intruder wound up for Robbie Laws and group of people and suffice to say the enitre group was beyond impressed with the tone of the cab and sonic footprint it has...Gigantic.

OK Steve, you did say that you recognized the cab at the show - I should have figured this out, you being the gear junky that you are. I am calling you right now to figure out a visit time. ..Er, they do give you release time at the facility, of course? .....

I don't like the look of screws or bolts through the grille frame. The connection can easily be hidden on the inside if you want a removable grille. Looks like an afterthought.
