I have clones of that LC cab as well, very similar to the alf cab, alf's cab is less expensive because it is made differently to be inexpensive- I dropped mine down the stairs and it's still solid, so no worries there!!

I'm very interested in how these cabs compare to the 2x12 open back cabs with 1265's? What are the similarities and differences?

Well, the Bass has more of a "Thump" with the 1x12, the 2x12 with g1265's are louder, and "Sweeter" and have a bigger spread. the 1x12 with an EV is more focused and pushes air more like a 4x12, Your band mates will like you better with the sealed ported cab because it is focused and your sound doesn't spread all over the stage.
I keep both in my shop as well as a 4x12 and an open 1x12, they are all different enough to warrant all of them!

Honestly it is louder for some reason, and less "Boxy" sounding.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses and PMs. Thanks, too, for the offers to sell me one already made! The prices were great, but, I live in Thailand and the shipping is really the deal killer on such a large, heavy item.
So, I'm going to try to bring all this knowledge you've given me, together with some other info, and photos I've gotten from elsewhere on the web, and see if I can get some quality work done in Thailand. There's a BIG "knock on wood" associated with that, Thai workmanship is scary!
At present, I'll see what I can do about building a 112 for an EVM12L with a racetrack-shaped Dumble style port, and a 212 compact with a similar port placed diagonally for a couple Celestion Greenbacks I bought in 1991.
I'll let you know how this project turns out - and thanks! Great forum - glad I joined!

Note: not all EV12L's do sound the same. Especially the ex-boogie EV12L's seem to be (my opinion) a little bit weak on the high top-end. For some (Ritenour) jazzy style of playing they seem to be OK. There are differences in gasket depth in the magnet. Better us the EV's with the gaskets about .25 inch sunk in the magnet for more clear/balanced sound.
