Girlfriend's amp

Post by j-po »

My girlfriend designed this amp after looking at some of my puzzling schematics and asking questions like "what are those rakes?". I'll post some sound clips after she gets it soldered together.

Cool. Good start.

She made need to reconfigure the 2nd gain stage bypass switch. That and the half power switch should make a VVR unnecessary and still get good "bedroom" level output.

Help her out on the power supply design and you should be good to go.

Very cool .
When my wife sees any of my schematics she’s getting a look on her face as if it’s a prophecy of doom  .

This made my morning :D My wife will sometimes come up behind me and start "explaining" a schematic to me. It's pretty cute.

Women building tube amps!? See, this is how it all goes horribly wrong once you start teachin' 'em to read!

What's next? Pink tolex and spandex grill cloth? Sparkle nail polish on the chrome corners? (That was my daughter's suggestion!)

But seriously, folks--given the neurophysiological differences betwixt dudes and dudettes, I think it would be fascinating to do a contrast MRI study of both sexes listening to guitar playing. How do our different brains process "tone?" Is "good tone" something that transcends biology?

My singer is a synesthete, and music stimulates "color" experiences in her brain. I wonder how she would experience the difference between a Trainwreck and a Dumble?

So many mysteries..................

Just remember...
Both Leo Fender and Jim Marshall hired ladies to assemble the amps that we all covet as "classics".

We used to get circuit boards stuffed at a place nearby that used to be a fish processing plant. Believe it or not, they removed all the fish processing equipment, hired some knowledgeable management, bought electronics assembly equipment, and retrained the existing assembly line workers (mostly middle-aged women). They did great work.

My wife is a Biomedical engineer and is one of the smartest people I know, however, when it comes to electronics, she swears it's all voodoo.

Mine wants to know why I have to have Phil Heyboer wind my transformers. "Why can't you just do it yourself?" About cloning Hammond Organ (Peerless) transformers; "Isn't there some sort of patent infringement or copyright violation here?" About Negative Feed Back; " The whole subject sounds kinda discouraging to me". "Why is it called a Presence Control?", "Can we take a time out from this...."

etc.
