Hi Gary, those pictures brought back some bad memories. Glad to hear you and your son survived. Hope everything works out for you and your recovery goes well.
God Bless,

P.S: My son, grandson, & granddaughter were in this one. Lady ran a red light. No serious injury.

I took the LSAT years ago and was accepted at a few tier 3 schools. After a long talk with a Lawyer I knew I decided that I could never have handled the loss of public esteem. I went into construction work instead. Much more noble calling.drhulsey wrote:Every once in a great while, I hear someone complain about lawyersCapnCrunch wrote: ... Re: Builds on hold
I heard a quote a few years back. I don't know if it is exact or who to attribute it to but it went something like this. "He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his heart, is a craftsman. He who works with his hands, his heart, and his head, is an artist". I can say I know a lot of artists in the "trades" but not so many in the local bar. That is the local bar association.
I almost didn't post my previous post because I didn't want it generally known that I'm an attorney. I'm not ashamed of the fact, but I'm not really proud of it either. The funny thing is that I walked away from the practice of law about 3 years ago and started a construction company. I did well the first year, but had to go back to my "real" profession a little over a month ago because the work has dried up around here.
Having done both, I would say that law and construction are similar in many ways, with construction being more difficult. A lot of the guys I know in construction could have been attorneys, but very very few of the attorneys I know could do construction. Just my .02.
That said, I hope Gary gets everything taken care of that he needs taken care of. That the other driver's insurance company ponies up all the dough that he is out, and out of their moral sense of obligation agree to pay for future medical bills. I really hope that he doesn't have to fight them to force them to do what they are supposed to do. But, if they don't, I hope he finds a good lawyer. There are a few out there. Not many, but a few.

Re: Builds on hold
When I was a young doctor, full of piss and vinegar, I had a dislike for lawyers in general, but, of course, not the ones I knew well. Over the years, I have watched how insurance companies have reneged on their obligations to the point of destroying people's lives! Instead of working for the insured, they worked for the stock holders. Insurance companies should not be allowed to have stock holders. Then, they would only have a responsibility to the people to which they sell their product. Health insurance companies de facto practice medicine! That is illegal, but they have such influence on government [and are allies of the government since they are in the insurance business, too (Medicare/Medicaid)], insurance companies have the upper hand. While denying treatment to patients, their little pip-squeak CEO's continue to get their big bonusesCapnCrunch wrote: ... I'm not ashamed of the fact, but I'm not really proud of it either...
Don't get me wrong– there are unscrupulous lawyers! But there are unscrupulous doctors, builders, bankers, etc. No profession is immune. I just distrust lawyers on an individual basis, now, rather than in general
Though it is extremely difficult, I try to look at the world from outside my paradigm

Re: Builds on hold
Welcome to the forum Capn'. Whatcha gonna build? I think everybody likes to poke fun at your first profession. Just the nature of the game I guess. I got 6 lawyers in the family out to the first cousin level. All nice people and only one of them has "big" money. He had to spend a fortune for a Harvard Law education and work in New York City, (where they don't make salsa, they dance it) for more years than I could have taken. He has retired to Hilton Head. I hope he lives many more years to make it all worth while. Great guy. After making my smart ass remark, let me also say that while I have worked 7 twelves for months at a time in my former business I believe that a junior partner in a big law firm works for far less per hour than I was making in my glory days. I retired too early really. I'm now looking at a seminary degree. Maybe I should re-visit law. Then again.....there are very few clergy jokes.CapnCrunch wrote:I heard a quote a few years back. Hey Tim, how does a liberal arts guy become a perfusionist? Or learn to run one of those fancy heart scanners?

Re: Builds on hold
Hey....
I've been away a couple of days. I have become a believer in doing what you love. I still have two kids in grade school and pre-school so I'm in the 'you do what you gotta do phase'. Anyway, I think I'm gonna build an express, or at least something pretty darn close.

Time off work when you are not on vacation sucks.
I'm up to episode 3 out of 6 in the Star Wars. Looking forward....not....to The Lord of the Rings videos again, the Shogun mini series again but, I'm not doing The Thornbirds, didn't watch it the first time around.
Hey, maybe I'll go and clean those work benches out in the garage one thing at a time.
Just trying to keep it light and unbore myself
here.
The hard part is going to be getting back on my schedule instead of the wife's. She works the 9 PM- 5:30 AM shift so if I want to stay up and fight with her..........talk with her........ I get to stay up all night.
Thursday the 15th we will be married 32 yrs. 17 good, 7 bad, and 8 mediocre.

K, see yah later,
Gary

Gary,
Marriage is like a three ring circus: First there is the engagement ring, then there is the wedding ring and finally the suffering.
Hey have you watched the Trinity movies lately. My name is Trinity, They call me Trinity and what the hell is the other one? I like old westerns Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer were in.

Re: Builds on hold
Mark,
Haven't seen them yet but, they caught my eye when they came out.
Will look em' up.
They Call Me Trinity (1971)
Trinity Is Still My Name (1972)
TroubleMakers (1994)
Sons Of Trinity (1995)
I like Eastwood, the wife doesn't care for him. I'll get his new one when I can rent it.
Maybe already, some movies hit the video stores when they hit the theaters.
I can do my Married with Children collection too.
I go to the ortho doc tomorrow so will see if they can put humptey together again.
The wife and I are going to run away from home tomorrow night. I made her take the night off work. I may be old but, I ain't dead yet.
May be able to get some nickles back at the casino. Paid them for the comped room last week.
That is our (her) only vice these days, the bar scene hasn't been an option for 15/20 years for me.
She walked out of the casino last week with $200.00 of their money off the penny machines.
Beats the movie theater or feeding a pool table.
May go look for some kind of a knock around used car while we are out and about.
Would like to find a good pre steel side panel Saturn. The "plastic" fender, door panel is why I went Saturn 2 cars ago cause of all the salt they use here on the roads. 3 yrs+ = rust in MI.
I forget what year they went steel, thinking it was 2004 or 2005.
Then again GM may be dropping Saturn when they redo what ever they are going to, to stay alive.
Well later, gunna browse a while.
