Workbench

Post by gahult »

OK, here are 4 workbenches in my garage.
So this should make up for a clean rug where I build the Wrecks.
Heck, I wouldn't be able to find a diode if I dropped one in there.
Come to think of it I can't find a thing in that mess.
I gotta get in there and clean.

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird , and they take Prozac to make it normal.

Our former head of maintenance had a nifty method of cleaning out the shop. Every time the front office requested housecleaning to present a clean image to visiting customers... he'd pull up a bunch of 55 gallon drums and scrap everything on the benches. His brother in law was one of our suppliers so he'd re-stock when the coast was clear.

Of course our de facto Director of Recycling (me!) would sort out the good stuff out by the loading dock before it was truly out of reach.

So... my home workshop looks just like yours... x100 or so!

Isn't that why God invented horizontal surfaces– to stack stuff on :?:

Ah, that's not so bad. I see a few places left to put stuff. When ever I fill up one bench I just build another. See if your wife will let you use the kitchen table. Or the coffee table. And if you have carpet, the living room floor is nice and soft. When she leaves you, you'll find even more places that will work.

I don't think she's gonna leave since I can build amps instead of buyin' 'em :D

Heheheh, I still build stuff on the dining table.... :D

When my wife comes home and sees the drill press and other crap on the table I get one of these.

I have a work bench out in the garage too, but it has stuff stacked on it and it's way too cold out there for me to work there.

As long as I don't get too much solder splatters on the place mats and floor I am good. :D

Of course there is always "His n Her's " Houses. Reminds me of the time I went on a pilgrimage to Sam Hutton's. He worked for Fender in the early days doing amplifier cabinets and specifically coverings. His place was wall to wall fender amps of every kind, chassis, cabs, speakers, DUST! every room every where. But , he was the Master of the Fender amp covering. Showed me how the factory did them , explained some of the mystery writings found in various cabs, alot of humor. His sign was the $ with two lines.
Anyway, his girlfriend, was super sweet, her place was nice and tidy ,spotless as could be, the polar opposite of Sam's. They had a good arraignment and she never told him to clean up his place. She took care of him and left him to do his work ,at his place.

I'm a single guy with a home so I have always built on the dining room table. And then the other amp that's in the 'tweek' phase is on the breakfast table. I don't need dining tables...I'm a bachelor...I just lean over the sink.

Both my tables are pretty bad...I'm gonna clean one this Thanksgiving weekend...but I'm still eating over the sink.

You can't see the piles of boxes and stacked amps off to the side off camera.... Daughter at University's crap, Christmas stuff, all kinds of junk (that isn't mine)....

I moved this summer and the garage is still full of BS... I need to deck the garage attic, THEN I'll have some real room to work. I can't use the table saw, router and sander in there- I have to take it out into the driveway....
