I'm kind if a newbie here ( but have been lurking for a few years ).
I have been pondering a first build ( have had to put it off several times due to goofy situations), but maybe now I will have a chance !
I was wondering , is it probably not wise to attempt any sort of dumble influenced thing right now ? Would I be much smarter just getting a Tweed champ kit or a 5e3 and cut my teeth there?
I don't exactly know what I am doing yet , but I have gleaned a good deal of info from this joint here and have some books ordered . The problem is this , I really don't need another small practice amp. I was hoping to build something that I could use to fill my higher wattage needs .
I know that i should stop trying to run before I'm crawling right ? I am just getting a little overzealous .. But it seems so exciting !!!
Just a quick dumb question !

Howdy-
Respectfully, success = confidence
If you don't have some soldering experience AND the ability to follow a schematic (not just a layout) I would tackle something simpler to build experience / skill. I believe that a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe is a good starting point; the result being a classic tone. Not slagging the 5F1 Champ; I just feel the deluxe will get used more. (Neil Young has been using 'em for decades!!)
Hope this helps...

Re: Just a quick dumb question !
Sorry for putting this in the files section ( must've clicked it by accident ) so mods please move to dumble discussion section !
Thanx for the help . I've got a ceriatone 5e3 with MM tranny in a head configuration . I was thinking of buying a 5e3 kit and them moving the weber tranny to the head and switching the MM tranny to the combo cab. I figured this might teach me a little bit on modding as well.
I figured starting with a dumble would probably be over my head , but I guess I can wait until Ive got the experience built up.
it's funny I am 35 years old anf feel like a little kid on x-mas full of anticipation !!

Re: Just a quick dumb question !
I built a D'Lite as my first amp, with no significant prior experience working with electrical stuff. Used a Brown Note chassis, but made my own boards and otherwise sourced everything myself. It was not something I tried to whip together in a week, though; I spent months poring over the amp forums, looking at all the build photos I could find, and reading and re-reading the Brown Note build guide. So it can be done, but I wouldn't advise it if you have any urgency about getting the thing done.

Re: Just a quick dumb question !
No real urgency , I am more than willing to wait months longer to get it done right. I just don't really need a Champ or another Deluxe. I'd rather build something that I need to fill in my amp requirements ( something with a little more wattage and headroom )
Those D'lite kits cost a bit more than I'd like to spend ...but it's better I guess to spend the $$$ to get some quality than be unhappy with the tone .
By the way , how satisfied were you with how it turned out ? Does the sound live up to your expectations ?
