The TAD short bottles are a warm and full bottomed tube. They sound best in bright amps IMHO. In a well balanced amp, I find them dull when compared to the Winged C or new Tung Sol STR from New Sensor. Currently, I have those in my amps as the lack of top end articulation of the TAD short bottles irks me.

Then I got some JJ 6L6 to tide me over. They seemed a bit darker and not as articulate.

Then I bought some Winged =C='s which are in it now. They sound good but nothing to write home about.

In the few tubes I tried I think the TAD's sounded the best but I'm a bit gun shy after the redplate incident.

Perhaps I should have another go at them.

Anybody know what the TAD 6L6 actually are?
There are two types. The one I use are the Chinese variety.
I haven't used too many 6L6's recently, only about 30 or so in recent months, but they were all Chinese (some TAD, some Ruby, same tube) and they have all been fine. I've used a lot more of the TAD Chinese EL34's though with very little in the way of issues to.

I've been lucky in that I have some RCA black plaes and Sylvania STR 387's laying around. The STR's are just huge, powerful sounding tubes.

I like the Shuguang (TAD) tubes, especially for the money.
