If people built the bloody things into the amp where they belonged in the first place, this would all be a moot point :)

Hell, it's not me getting shit on Ampgarage for a change....this is novel !!

Paul, you are my friend, you know me, I've been to your house, you have been to my shop and we have had a laugh recording those TGP clips.
Trust me, I couldn't build one of those in 2 hours for $100 in parts either. I would say at a push, it would take me 4-5 hours realistically and I have absolutely all the parts, test equp and tools easily on hand and a really good working area to do it.

All the best, Al.

Wrong again with your judgments!

A) I have been building, repairing, modding since the late 80's. Do not do it as much as I would like, only about one dozen folks is what I can handle. Family first!

B) I do not like to rip people off. It's a matter of character and taste, and many folks in the Boston area can attest to that.

C) Again, I chimed into this thread because folks like Brandon and others were bashing Nik. Folks should stop the bashing......That is all!
If you've been building and repairing blah blah blah then you should respect people who build what is arguably one of the best amps on Earth with an eye towards duplicating quality of the original. That's character and taste. I have no problem with people who build something that's bulletproof and classy. I have a big problem with people who cut a corner here and take a shortcut there then justify the end result as, "It sells". That's the prevailing logic. "It's a POS but with a little work it's a good value."

There's a simple test of quality. If I were to give you an amp and you could choose between a Bludo and a Ceria which one would you take? Don't bullshit me just to make a point, we were talkin' about integrity a minute ago.

See what I mean...that is what I call a bit too much. You got to be fair to people, especially if your not kicking back a fee to Mr. Dumble.

Just my humble opinion, and we should stop bashing folks as its not good.
OK, here is an offer for you. You have seen -- and if not, do a quick search -- what I build. Take a look at my latest Dumbleator clone in a rercent thread, do an inventory of the parts and procure them. Build the mofo as I did and if you end up spending $100 in parts and two hours to replicate it, I will give you for free and with no B.S. one of my amps -- yes, the ones I've posted pictures of here through the years. Needless to say, your Dumbleator clone must look and sound the part for this offer to he honored by me.

Right off the bat, in order for you to not blow the time and money allocated as per your own estimate, you will need some luck with the tube(s) you purchase... I spend about as much as you will building the Dumbleator clone just picking the right tube for it, and I may go through a couple before I find one I like, which means you might spend about $30 just picking the right 12AX7.

Should you fail in your attempt, I expect nothing back from you, either on my behalf or anyone else's. If you choose to decline the offer, let me know and I will post an addendum to this.

Respectfully,

Gil

Gil,

Please....this thread was about the Ceriatone HRM...no more, no less...... Look at who started bashing Nik............ All I asked was it to stop and then we get into the excuses of being built in America and the other ham!

Bottom line.......my line was to stop the bashing. The rest is white noise.

Being 52 years old and playing, repairing and moding amps since before a teenager I have seen a lot of tube amps in my life. Most not worth a crap. But what the guys on this forum got going is fantastic. I anxiously wait for each post and I learn tons. I will contribute when I have something to contribute. So you can say I take more than I give. It will all work out in the end.

What I like about the new trend is many great amps are coming out now and that is exciting. Both home built and dealer wise. There is plenty of room for the little guy trying to make a living. Whats coming out of the old big companies isn't all that great (Marshall, Peavey, Fender). I am building a TW liverpool to go with my Dr. Z Stangray. I also bought a Ceriatone Expression from Nik because I think he is providing us with a great product. I am buying most of gear from the USA and being a Marine (long time ago now) I believe in the USA building more products and we build them in great quality too. But I also have no problem buying from Nik. My next purchase will be two Bruce Egnator amps the Marshall clone he builds in his class and the new little amp he has coming out right now running switchable power tube sections which by the way is not built in the US. So what. I also plan to build a Champ head version and then a Bandmaster Head. Since I am nearing retirement after 34 years of working for the US Government (whew that was long time) I will have more time to finally enjoy building amps and cabinets.

I will probably buy another amp from Nik because he does good work. Just parts sourcing has given me a headache and decided to just quantity by everything and order resister kits and capacitor kits.
There is room for all of us guys. Why the hot head attitude?

Alan,

Folks for whatever reason like to distort the matter. THE REASON I SPOKE WAS BECAUSE OF BRANDONS' BASHING OF NIK.

The rest of the conversation went down hill because folks just can't argue that point. Folks wanted to argue about Walmart specials...cutting corners....because they can't argue the fact that bashing of NIK is easy and classless!

I would stick up for you to Alan all the way.......you know that very well.

I own a Ceriatone and a Dumble. Now go buy your Bludo!

It's pretty simple. The good stuff is the good stuff. Copies of the good stuff is the next tier down. Expectations of quality ratchet down with price.

For an analogy look at Fender compared to their price point brand Squier. How 'bout an Eric Johnson Strat? That's the good stuff, right? The look at an Indonesian Squier Affinity. Not the good stuff but at that price what do you expect? Yeah you can toss a fret job plus some better pickups and hardware into the Squier but bottom line, it is what it is.

O.k., then we'll look at some of the better built U.S. made Dumble clones without naming names. Good stuff, right? Damn, they might as well have chrome bumpers and tail fins! Then we'll look at the imports. The level of detail just isn't there. Some copies struggle to reach the standards of the originals, sad but true. It would suck if we end up with nothing left but cheap copies 'cuz we didn't take care of our own when we had a chance.

I think most of us picked up on that. If you're less than happy with Brandon for whatever reason, it's something you and he may or may not want to try to resolve privately. I myself don't have any issues with people having a problem with someone else, it happens. What is difficult for me is to sit down and read a post in which you state what I know to be inaccuarte based on my own experience over the last decade. No one can build a Dumbleator in 2 hours, period... and unless you use cheap parts, it's just not possible to spend $100 and buy all you need to build one.

For the experience of it, I would really encourage you to build a Dumbleator clone and then revisit the whole thing. Needless to say, people here will help you and if you follow Brandon's detailed instructions, the box will turn out just right. I estimate that by the time you finish, you will have spent about $200 and probably on the order of 10 hours minimum to "GitRDone!" Furthermore, unless you have done these a few times before, the box will not look that great and you will probably have some problems with it that you will need to troubleshoot.

The gap between "working on stuff" -- modifying stuff -- and building something starting from scratch is pretty significant, and the only way to find out is to cross the threshold. :)

Cheers,

Gil,

Agree with most of your post, but if you got a Dumbleator in front of you....I would agree the first one may take a little time...but after that it should be way fast, especially, let's say your going to build 10 at a time.

Did not really want to get into the discussion of building a dumbleator.....my point as well as others including yourself was the bashing of Nik. It's totally classless and un-called for and should stop.

Well, I guess we now can move forward.

As someone who has built 10 at a time I need an employee who could do that job in 20 hours. I can't even get close to twice of that. Wanna move to Phoenix?

By any chance are you the guy that recently got thrown off the gearpage? If so, that explains it. If not, you have my sincere apology for considering it.

Dude, come on.....

What sort of statement is that, what does it actually explain ? Even if it was the same person, this isn't the gear page, nor does your comment have any relevance to this debate apart from to stir negativity. This is a discussion about inanimate objects and although heated isn't 'really' personal.

All the guys talking on here are good guys in the real world, just because they bicker in an internet debate doesn't mean anything. The Gear Page runs on fear of being sued, and I understand why, because they do get sued. I've had my own fair share of infractions on there just for defending myself and I'm not a douche.
This forum is run a lot more open and freely for debate and to the most part allows people to self-regulate much more. It has a very different user base than TGP.

I'm sorry, I just think your comment was provoking and irrelevant to the point of this discussion. Gil and Paul can and will handle themselves just fine and if someone was thrown off the gear page that doesn't mean they can't talk on here without prejudice.

Well, that answers that. What exactly did/does your buddy bring to the conversation here. He promotes you and your amp line, and he doesn't like Brandon. OK, we all get that. What else?
