Partscaster suppliers

Post by moj067 »

Just when I thought I was set on guitars(ha!) I see a sonic blue tele w/ hum neck and tele bridge pickup relic. I start hearing Karen Carpenter in my head head and I'm smitten. Not going to ante up for something I can wear out myself, but man that color w/ that body shape, anyway. Who does the best parts for such a creature. I know of Warmoth, USACG, and Musickraft, anyone else? Thanks in advance for any input.

Do you think there's much validity in that cryogenic metal treatment they tout? I agree with their thoughts on metal mass and anchoring certain
components more solidly to the wood. But I'm not fully versed in the new sciences by a long shot. I'd like to try one of their Tele bridge/saddles in my Trussart but he might suggest I cryogenically treat the metal body.

Please the Trussart alone. The Callaham stuff is good, but when you start messing w/something that is designed as a whole in sympathy, sometimes great parts alone don't do what that just right part brings to the table. I would like to see if Trussart could part w/ one of those skull tele guards though, as I have an itch about those as well. They are just cool as hell in that aged/ worn rough way.

I hear ya dad. 8) The Trussart is so too much for what it brings to the table.
It's only shortcoming is the Allparts 6 saddle, brake shape bridge. Have no fear, I can summon the tumerity and tact to refrain from fiddley-fuckin' with an obvious "good thang". But I'm still the occasional bench racer.
Tu sabes?

It's cool, sabes bien, just messed up too many good rides and wasted too much money on the chase. It's been said that the worst enemy of good... is better.
I agree on the Allparts front though, I've had good and bad parts from them, swore them off in 1985 and haven't been back.
Anyway, looking for good body and neck folks that got the stuff.

Buld it yourself! Warmoth or USACG parts raw (no paint). Send them to Lays guitar in Ohio for thin Nitro finish and add parts of your choosing. Set-up by a pro if you can't do it yourself. Cost will be in the $1500 area. Resale will kill you if you decide to sell BUT if you keep it you won't be able to touch anything nearly as good for $1500. Choose a light weight body. It should kill!

I did this strat the way I described for about $1200. A friend of mine is a pro Luthier and did some of the setup and assembly for me. It will hang, and maybe surpass, any Fender custom shop instrument I have played.

Fralin PUP's and Fender American hardware. Lightly relic'd!

I've heard that USACG is doing finishing in-house now.

Thats nice work. I actually decided to go w/ a Nash exactly like I wanted and will run me the same cost (I've got a good local pusher man). I'll probably do some work to the finish as there is a lttle too much dulling going on for me, but I can work with it. It'll take a couple of months-then I'll be done

Yes but is it Nitro or Poly? I prefer the nitro which Warmoth doesn't do.

Good luck Moj067. Sounds like a nice guitar. Please post some pics when you get some time.

As a member over at the Guitar ReRanch forum I can tell you that it is pretty easy to paint your own guitar with nitro lacquer.
ReRanch sells all the old Fender colors and clear nitro in aerosol cans.

I have built five partscasters and finished them myself.

If you can build an amp, most likely you have the patience to finish a guitar.

A quality finish from a spray can you ask?

Yep, of course a guitar sprayed with a gun and compressor will have less orange peel than a can will but in the end after you wetsand and polish, the end result can be spectacular.

Here are a few I built and finished.
