The big guy painting Fender chassis'

Post by tubedogsmith »

The big guy painting his chassis. It seems when he modded old Fenders, part of his deal was to paint the inside of the chassis black. Any ideas why that would be worth the effort?

He may simply not like glare. If you have access to that, it would be interesting to know if the black paint is conductive or not.

I saw that, it's on e-bay right now.
It's got this little AD stamp on the bathtub.
Neat to see the evolution of his art.

Tubedog,
its more than just painted fender chassies if thats what you mean,
he actually built new chassies in aluminum in some of these early amps,

pretty cool if you ask me 8)

I lifted the pic off ebay. So, that's not a Fender chassis?

Wouldn't a Fender of that era have an angled front?

Nope, basically only the faceplates and trannies, and few small parts that were taken from the fender , so this is really more than just a "modded fender "
I friend of mine often hanged in his shop back then, he said he used to have a pile of scrapped fender chassies in there,
just take a closer to the pic and you dont see the top lip in front and back of the chassie as a fender normally has,

It is angled, you can see it clearly in the other pics, this one is kinda deceiving.

Hmmm... looks like he kept the fender tremolo section.
