Back in town and finshed up the Express.
I say that knowing full well someone might find something that needs attention.
I followed the posts on the bright switch wiring and tried both ways..... I will probably stick with the revised way. It does have a lower noise floor or at least it did to me.
Going to play with a few tubes and probably smile a lot. I will hopefully post some clips in the future.
Here are some pics which are hopefully better than the others I posted earlier on.
No prizes for guessing who made the cab.
Thanks to everyone....... I could not have done it without the people on this forum and feel free to point any issues out.
Thanks, much appreciated.
Larry did the cab. Putting the amp together was a tough enough task, attempting something like the cabinet would be a bit beyond me. Top shelf work from Larry.
I will try and get some clips done but it might take a while but hopefully not as long as it took me to put the amp together
Very nice indeed. As to the Francesca vs revised bright cap controversy let me just say such things are on an amp by amp basis. I stick the two caps to each other with RTV to imobilize them. Sacralege I know, but quieter. At times I've had to add such things as shielded wire from the volume control to the second triode and a grid stopper at the first. Just depends on so much. You have followed the Francesca layout so closely that I'm not in the least bit surprised that you've got a nice quiet amp.
I believe with my next build I'll experiment with ways to make it noiser. Glen's clips have a breathy quality that I suspect comes from being just a hair more unstable than my iterations.

If so...
Where do you guys source your teflon insulated wire from?
I've been using APEX, and his prices are great, but I've found the insulation to be a bit thin. It's great, though, never melts.
I've noticed on a lot of builds, especially Allyn's & Dana's, and this one that the insulation on the hook-up wire is especially thick. I imagine that it helps a bit with microphonics.
Just curious... I need to order more soon and I'd like to try a new source.
Thanks again...... I'm still grinning from ear to ear.
The wire is PVC 600v solid core 20gauge with the exception of the heaters which is stranded 18gauge. I find it easy to work with.

I played around with the teflon wire in a Liverpool and thought it was extremely microphonic. The PVC wire made a considerable difference and cleared most of it up for me.
Hey Pete,
I have to say your amp turned out exceptionally well both on the inside and the outside.
I would love to hear some soundclips when you get the chance.
