I do, now :D
For those first reading this thread, this was my first amp build ever. I do, however, want to hear any criticism you might have. It isnt 100% KF lead dress, although I tried my best.

My guess is you are not reading your meter correctly or had some dirt between your probes and the terminals. I would check that again, sometimes meters will autorange and you can misread them as well.
Well I would have thought so, but It is definitely messed up. I have checked it several times, and it is really consistent. There is a certain part in the turn(the first quarter) where all the highs are gone. Once it is past, i hear the high hiss kick in and the highs are back, and the pot works fine at the point. It really is strange. But I can get some really cool AC/DC and ZZ Top muffled sounds.

Sounds like the pot is messed up or you have a bad solder joint that pulls and disconnects when you turn the knob a certain way. All the tone knobs should have a smooth range. Only when you shut off the bass, mid, and treble will you notice something odd as the preamp shuts off as it's loaded too high.

Remember one trick to tame the brightness on these amps is to plain crank it up. The bright switch will add something cool IF you already have the amp up to half or 1pm. If you only put the volume on 1/4 the bright switch will be WAY too intense IMHO.

A 40' cord really works with these amps too. I've tried a short cord with a small capacitor, matching the same net capacitance of 40' of wire. Didn't sound the same. I think these amps need to loading of a long cord, and that there is more to it than just the extra capacitance.

I just checked and my "Mogami Gold" cables are 18' actually. I usually run two in series using a Switchcraft female to female adapter for a total of 36" of wire. These cables use Mogami #2524 wire and usually come with the straight Neutrik 1/4 plugs.

Rumor has it, that Hendrix used the long curly cords for their sound.

Food for thought.

Thinkin' about it

Well this thread has boosted my confidence in attempting it also, although I have not decided to build one on my own just yet,,,I too have never soldered anything,,,only de-soldered a speaker once. I will keep thinking about it...
