Trainwreck recordings

Post by mojo »

I'd be very interested in a listing of records and CDs known to have Trainwreck amps prominently featured. So far the only commercial recordings I know of are the now OOP recordings by the Christian group Novella. Anybody able to provide a fairly extensive list, and especially recording with details about type of amp and guitar and effects used?

Okay, forget the extensive list part. Anybody here know of ANY commercial or obtainable recordings which feature a Trainwreck prominently? Any leads appreciated! On the Gear Pages I saw something that seemed to imply one was used on some Bryan Adams stuff, but no details were mentioned.

Look for a band called Xenon. Their material may not be available outside of New Jersey but is worth the search. Two albums of 90'ish metal. Great band... shame they didn't go big time. Bob's one of my favorite guitarist. I also have some recordings of my cousin (another great unknown Jersey guitarist IMHO!) with his Express (Amanda? I'll find out). I'll ask for permission and post if allowed.
Yes... I did play his 'wreck several times through his late 60's G12h straight front 4x12 cabs. Scary really! I can honestly attest that if your an average player there is no place to hide  . You will just suck louder. If your good however... it will bring tears to your eyes.

Rocket,

Yep that be me on the '90 GP soundpage. Thanks for remembering. :)

Does the soundpage count as a commercial release? Probably not, just joking.

Here are two clips, straight guitar>amp>cab. Keep in mind the recordings are over a decade old, done with so so Tascam mic pres, and one close mic. You may all have heard these before. I need to do some new ones, with some multi micing and pro mic pres to capture the basketweave cab "wood"...

I have a 4th generation recording of the band Xeon. I can post some clips if anybody is interested. I will have to go to my friends studio to burn to cd so i can rip to mp3. It may take a few days.

Doing some road work with a country/rock/cajun artist, studio work, music publishing, and guitar instuction in Nashville. Steering clear of a "real" day job and somehow keeping it all music related.

Yep, I've even played a country gig with my '89 Express before. Put a 12ay7 in the 1st position and it really tames down the gain.

Luckily though I've been running into more rock gigs lately so I may start bringing out the Wreck again soon.

Heck I recently played on the Grand Ole Opry with a Les Paul and even kicked in a Fuzz Face for a solo. Things aren't all chicken pickin' in this town anymore.

Lately I've really been happy with some NOS Sylvania 6CA7s in my Wreck. Helps to bring out the lows as my particular Express is a little mid and top heavy.

Bryan Adams

Post by toddyjoe »

Some time back, I listened to Trainwreck sample clips from various sources. I then went listening to some Bryan Adams stuff to see if I could find a Trainwreck on his recordings. I may be wrong, but to me it sounds like the lead guitar work on "It's Only Love" with Adams and Tina Turner is a Trainwreck. It certainly has a characteristic smooth, high-gain lead tone that is similar to many other Wreck recordings. The rhythm guitar, on the other hand, did not sound like a Wreck but something cleaner overall with more compression and more of a mid- and upper-mid focus. Perhaps a Vox AC-30? Anyway, that's just my two-cent contribution to this thread. :)

Thanks for the responses! Hey geetarpicker - I'm in Clarksville. Any way I could finagle a way to play through your 'Wreck for a few minutes and maybe look it over? Depending on what styles you teach I might also be interested in lessons, although the trip to Nashville is a bit much to make a regular habit, especially since I work most of the time. If so, let me know a subtle way to contact you (I generally try not to post any info online to make myself and my identity too available, I guess I'm paranoid). If you have any old recordings of your playing with your 'Wreck, I'd also be interested in buying some if possible. Are you the Glenn K whose rig is pictured elsewhere on this site? Thanks, and if we get together I promise not to be a pest - maybe I can help a little in your quest to remain semi-unemployed.

I found a Xenon reunion web page but there is no T'Wreck on it. In the photos I can see a 4 input Marshall for one of the guitarists.

I've been to the club they list the gig at so I know it's NJ.

Here is the link http://donxml.com/music/articles/259.aspx

GeetarPicker- Your clips are awesome. What guitar did you use on the first one? Were the clean parts done by just rolling the guitar volume back?

I would also pay for a CD of more stuff like the first clip!! Very cool!

Yes these are jersey natives and know Mr. Fischer personally. Bob from Xenon used to somehow slave or A/B his wreck into a non-MV Marshall when playing live. We never did get to ask him how or why he did this. Bob was quite fond of using effects (chorus) as we all were 'back in the day' so keep that in mind when listening. As far as the reunion page is concerned he might have put the wreck away for safe keeping. As valuable as these things have become thats what I would do. As a side note its interesting that my cousins wreck is not listed on the "known wreck" page of the official twreck page. Mr. Fischer personally brokered the sale of Amand Lynn to either California of Hawaii for him. Has anybody seen it?
