Wanna group buy some push-pull pots?

Post by Mickey_C »

We have run out of supplies of CTS push pull smooth shaft 1M audio taper 3/8" solder lug pots. Bummer for those of us who use them...

We've talked with CTS in Taiwan, and have worked out the specs for a new pot to be manufactured. Apparently these have not been made for some time. We have spec'd them with 1/2W 5% carbon element, a smooth shaft .5" long (the demo pot they manufactured, in the photo below is .70"), 3/8" brass bushing, SPST switch with 500V@20mA, anti-rotation key, and they will come with mounting hardware (internal toothed lock washer and chrome panel nut).

To buy them in small quantities, being a custom order part, would be $40 each. I can't do that (and I'd surprised if you could). But if we could to a group order of 2500 pieces of these, we can get them for $3.013 each, after import duties. I've talked to Digikey, they have little interest in ordering a custom guitar amp part.

So, I am looking to find 10 other parties willing to spend $750.00 for ~250 pieces so we can make the large purchase. That should keep the push pull build quotas for a few more years ;-)

Or, obviously, 100 people willing to get 25. Or some combination. No mark ups at all - this would just be a builder community purchase to get the prices reasonable for all of us of this much needed part.

CTS also used to make that pot with a DPDT switch like Fender used on their notorious "Pull Boost" circuits. It lets you switch two circuit elements simultaneously (or, or course, you can just use one set terminals if what you want is SPST). I actually preferred those for more flexibility. Will they still make that one? I'd actually be interested in that.

Also, did you run your idea past AES/CED? They have been carrying the Marshall version of the 1M w/ SPST for about $10. Do you suppose they'd take some of the minimum order? They are much more into the amp part thing than Digikey.

Did you talk to ron @CTS stateside? 574 523 3857, as far as I know they have a $1000 min, at least that's what it was when I called 2 months ago-

If it was a DPDT switch I'd be interested
