Re: My first Express build...its alive!..pic added...question?
FWIW...I spent some time with the switch and my ohm meter today. I figured out that the back pin is the output and each click corresponds to a different pin...1-12. I set the stop to 3 clicks for 4-8-16 ohms. I do not understand the jumper part but I dont think I need it on my switch. I ohmed all the other pins out and all of them ohm to the output pin with the repected position of the shaft. If anyone reads this who knows better and I need to add jumpers please let me know. If I am on the right track also please let me know. I feel dumb answering my own questions but I really want to get her fired up this weekend if at all possible.

Re: My first Express build...its alive!..pic added...question?
I just fired it up for the first time. I did the startup as usual with no tubes and a limiter etc and then with tubes and a limiter and finally just tubes. All of my voltages were as mapped out within a few volst here or there but nothing surprisingly off.I took a reading at V3a1 as suggested it should be 190vdc? I have 322 vdc? At the c12 cap on the 82k side I have 178vdc and on the 100k side I have 322 vdc. My B+3 is 323.5 so my 100k res. r14 is bad right? or suggestions?

Not sure how Allyn does his but if it looks like this then this is how you do itguitarsnguns04 wrote:I need a little help. I am using Allyns board and am a little confused around the 25 trimmer pot connections on the power supply board. I have looked at all of the pics I could find and nothing seems real clear to me. I am using a Piher brand trim pot..it has 3 legs like a normal pot. My board seems to have an extra flea clip or two when compared to the Francesca pics. I am sure it is there to make something easier and is no mistake but I dont know what to connect to which.Does anyne have a pic or two of one Of Allyns boards populated they could share with me.
Thank you,

I'm thinking the cathode pin on that side is not connected to the 470ohm resistor. Are the 2 cathodes joined on that tube?guitarsnguns04 wrote:I just fired it up for the first time. flipped ot leads today and fired it up with 6v6s and some eh12ax7s..for starters. It is biased about 23 ma and sounds really killer. I like the control from the guitar volume. I am very pleased to say the least. I have a nos set of sylvania 6ca7s I am going to put in with some telefunken and mullard preamp tubes once she burns in a bit. I will probably just keep playing it with the 6v6s for a good while..20 hrs or so and then set it up with the good stuff. I just wanted to say thanks to all and everyone who has helped me along the way with this build....Thanks!

Re: My first Express build...its alive!..pic added...question?
heres a pic of her! I am really liking it so far. Are there any specific voltages that are crucial to the sound and dynamics? I tried the el34s today but I like the 6v6s better so far. I think I need to try some other el34s before I make my final decisions..also I used pacific trannys in this build. Please feel free to criticise as I would like to get better and appreciate the constructive criticism. Thanks to all who helped make this happen...you know who you are!

For $40-50 a matched pair try some Groove Tube EL34Ms.

Thanks for everything Allyn...
NG, this is my first scratch build. I do not have a cab for her yet. Thats my next project. I am trying to decide what wood type etc.
Thanks for the kind words!
