From the look of things, that's what I'll have to do if I'm curious enough.  I guess I was hoping for some tech input, something along the lines of "you can't use those resistor values coming into the PI..." or something like that.  I don't know if there is anything "magic" about either the standard Dumble or the Bluesmaster PI's.
The other hesitation I have is that compromises like this sometimes turn out like moving to the suburbs to escape the city: you end up with all of the drawbacks of living far away from work, the music scene, etc. and none of the benefits of the country like being alone, because everyone else had the same idea.
To my ear, it would be nice to have a little more "bloom" than the standard PI, and a little less compression than the Bluesmaster PI.  That's why I thought of trying something between them.
PS - sorry about the "Magnum PI" comment.  Truly a groaner, but it sadly might stick if this experiment works.
