For my purposes, the major use of the "boat anchor" capacitor analyzer would be full voltage re-forming and leakage testing. It's just a space thing for me.
Some of my parts stock has been around for a while, and the older Sprague Atoms were designed for repair shops, and have extra long shelf-life. But it isn't infinite. I do like to run them up before using them. I've not found an older, unused Sprague Atom in my parts bin that was bad, but I've found some ICC and some "unknown" branded parts that were somewhat leaky after sitting unused.

Just for S&G... Here's the TO-6A I had access to for 40 years. Doesn't look very used, does it?
FAA was in the process of purging obsolete test equipment just before I retired in 2012. I could have had the TO-6A but opted for a Tek 465B instead.

Well. I'm gonna get the cheapest e caps from Digikey I can and go from there.
I want to at least test for leakage at rated voltage and use it to reform some good but slightly outdated caps. Costs will be under 30 for that. Tubes don't seem too expensive for it.
I do want to fire it up just to have it working.

I've got a TO-6. I've used it for reforming caps and checking for leakage. It is handy for that since the power supply goes up to 600V and you can check at rated voltage for the caps instead of whatever a DMM will check at. It works fine, so I haven't had to mess with it. I would rather have the TO-5 as that can check turns ratios which would be pretty cool. Mine is missing the handle on top....I'll fix that one of these days I swear!
I think some of the resistors and caps in these are precision values, or the units are tuned when assembled with values that are exact. I could be wrong but worthwhile to check.

Well, I put some e caps in it last night and brought it up slowly. It didn't catch on fire or smoke so at least there's that.
The switch is bad, and I have one tube not heating up. I gotta find my tube stash and also check some voltages.
What contact cleaner should I use on this. I don't like deoxit D5. I don't want any residue.
I'll update tonight when I'm home from work.
