AB763 preamp with Marshall bass spec power amp?

Post by 66Fuzz »

As the title states. Worth pursuing or a fools errand?

I'm thinking of a last build with a AB763 preamp into a bass spec 100 watt power amp section. Has anyone built it? What were the results? Worth trying?

I'm thinking of a low filter spec like the early plexi types to keep it spongy like a twin reverb...

I've been hunkering to build a high power clean amp for myself just because. I don't need it, but I find it therapeutic to build...

I love the feel of old twins, but wanted to build something a little different just because I'm weird that way.....lol...

No problem to build really. Personally, I like it better with a vox top boost preamp

You did not post enough detail, but if your building this for Bass usage as your title alludes to then consider this.

EL34s have more gain then a 6L6GC does.
So they need less PI section drive signal.

If you want clean head room for Bass then using a 50 or 100 watt Marshall output section may not be the way to go especially if your power transformer current output level is closer to Fender twin / Showman size.
