I have been in the middle of trying different speakers in some old birch ply TL boxes. My goal is to make a tiny gigging D'Lite head and use a TL box. I thought it would give me some tight bass in a small footprint. I figured I might as well record and post because I would be doing some critical listening in the room anyway. FWIW I did not want to make this blind test or anything, but I did try to leave the controls the same for comparison. If I decide to try more speakers I'll post on this thread. D'Lite is with 6L6 and bluesmaster PI. Just sloppy clips with clean + Bright, then OD - then OD + PAB

**Cannabis Rex was WAY more efficient than the other 2 speakers.... I had to back off to keep from pegging my recording preamp. That's when I decided to halt my recording experiment - too many variables.
Hope this helps someone.

The Crexx sounded great on the OD+PAB but made the cleans sound sterile. DeltaPro gets my lowest marks of the 3 and the G1265 is best if you could have only one. As to the TL boxes, you have a fireplace in that house don't you?

Re: TL speaker test for D'Lite head
Hey Stelligan,
IMHO:
CRex,...not my kinda thing..
The DPro had nice cleans and did cut a lot of highs in od mode. I liked the neutral way it sounded.
1265, although allmost everyones favourite (incl mine),...I didnt like the clean sound as much as with the DPro. The lead sound had the famous chirp on top.
I´m not sure wich one (DPro or 1265) I would choose,...it depending on wich kinda music you play, guitar, what kinda gigs (Larger ones ->DPro, clubs ->1265) LC or RF? For RF sounds I would go for the 1265,...LC Tones are more the DPro kinda stuff...

Re: TL speaker test for D'Lite head
larsmuller,
My impressions exactly. Delta Pro had a gorgeous clean tone and low drive tone in the room - ala LC. It fell flat in OD + PAB. The highs didn't keep up with an overbearing upper midrange. G12-65 was the overall winner. C Rex didn't get a fair shake on tape because it was so much louder than the other 2 that I really had to back off on pick attack. I generally like that speaker in a 6V6 D'Lite - perhaps it is for the volume jump. No tone controls were changed in these tests to tailor to the speaker. I definitely should have bumped the bass for the C Rex cleans.
heisthl,
If it gets to 10 below on Sunday night, like they predict, I may burn one cab - not both.
I like these little suckers! Mucho tight bass. Variety is the spice of life....

Re: TL speaker test for D'Lite head
Thanks for posting your results, Dave. I had similar results with the DeltaPro. My overall impression was that it sounded good, but just didn't seem to have any character. The 1265 adds some personality to the tone. The one place the DeltaPro shines is when you really want to play loud. It doesn't color the amp much and you can hear how the amp responds better. I guess that makes it a great test speaker.

Bingo. I really love that speaker on clean tone with a jazz box. Still worth the price tag IMHO. Just not the best out there.Normster wrote:My overall impression was that it sounded good, but just didn't seem to have any character.
