Dumble business records?

Post by Lycoming360 »

Who is the heir to HAD's business records? I would think that he maintained schematics of his builds, and that these records should still exist.

I (for one) would love to trace the odyssey of his quest for tone, and what better way to do that than his schematics . . . not that we'll get to see them any time soon.

There was some theorizing on this in another thread. I doubt someone is going to give those away for free.

It is likely someone in the family/inheritance will sell that IP for some huge sum to another company that will market new amps as ''Based on Dumble Designs" or something similar.

The person handling all that was named in one of the GuitarWank podcasts, apparently someone very close to HAD whose name escapes me. Dumble was quoted saying that once he was gone, he wouldn't want anyone else to build his designs. I hope HAD is resting in peace and that his wishes are respected by the people handling his affairs.

Don't count on that. Drew Berlin liked Alexander way more than he likes money.

Honestly that's good to hear. I'm personally sick of profiteering over quality. Huge corporations drive for profit are what's ruining everything. They make the lowest possible quality product with the maximum for profit, instead of worrying about things like longevity, quality or serviceability :D

I'd much rather pay an artisan to do great work and spend more when I can afford it.

I agree it would be best to respect the man's wishes. It would be interesting if they used his records as an authentication clearing house and either took a flat fee or percentage of the sale to verify Dumble built or modified gear. Sort of like Banksy's Pest Control Office. I can see how something like that would align with Dumble's ideology way better than a licensing deal would

Since the days of de-gooping and non approved HAD service, there should be loads of info out there in the market already ...just judging by the currently available amps in the commercial market, this should prove this.

I agree that his IP should be kept to his wishes upon his passing.

Honestly, based on his generally bizarre lifestyle and how he treated people (both good and bad), I'm just hoping that the people who are owed money and/or amps get what they deserve and are owed. Dean Parks has waited over ten years (you read correctly, ten years), for an amp that was returned for repair. In his last conversation with HAD, he was told his amp was repaired, but "the cabinet and chassis are in two different places". He knows Drew and said "he's a good guy and I'm hoping for the best. Who knows how many more people sent in or brought him amps ? I'm not looking to piss on his legacy, but he chose to live off the grid, payments in cash, no checks, payments in gold, owned no property (rented everywhere he lived or lived in houses provided by others). Not a "normal" lifestyle for sure.

When I first went online in 2000, I got numerous e-mails pretty regularly from people asking (understandably) if I was affiliated with him, as they had "sent a deposit and am waiting many years for my amp". Not sure how many people, but there are people around the world who are apparently out quite a bit of money....

Yes, it would be nice if there was some kind of ledger of schematics, owners, etc, but even if there was, he made clear that he didn't want his legacy to be continued by anyone.
