Unidentified Weird Large 3w Resistors

Post by nicosci »

So I purchased these 2k4 3w resistors with an ad description reading as 1pcs, 2K4, 3 wat, body, 5 wat RESISTOR that's all they had to say. Any Idea why they're so big, so much so that they call it "5 watt body 3w" even for 5 watt resistors? Are these wire wound? Origins?

In any case I wanna put it as a dropping resistor but when I put it beside my 3 watter I thought its gonna look freakish big in my board. As in its at least 3x the mass of the 3w, about 1 1/2 longer.

Anyways it a bit of a task looking for good components these days.

Cheers,
Nick

How much do they weight as compared to a real 5 watt box type?

I bet that even though the ends are sealed , that the core is hollow like a paper towel roll.

Hi, yea I'm basing it off from; The seller saying "5 watt body" and that it indeed is as heavy and big as those 5 watt box ones. Cause I'm about to put it as my 1st dropper but it actually wont fit its that big. Also more of curious of the resistors' make as well.

Thanks,
Nick

Hmm, not sure I can properly measure but they're heavy for the mass. Yes as in im convinced they're 5 watts if not for the markings.

So why are you using a random component that you don't know much about, that's too large in a build? Because it looks old and shanky?
