Hi All,
I'd like o get a copy of this layout too if it's not too much trouble, you can email it to eusdesa at yahoo . com
Thanks,
Sam

Re: DIY Airbrake...
I just ordered my parts a few minutes ago. I am not an electronics wiz and have a question regarding the adjustable resistor. All looks pretty straight forward except the resistor with the adjustable tabs. Can someone talk about the process at arriving at the different ohms listed on the layout and how the tabs attach. Remember not a wiz here
Re: DIY Airbrake...
Thought I would try one more time.
I was wondering if someone could explain haw to arrive at the adjustable tab placement on the resistor???
It's a little confusing to me..
Thanks

Re: DIY Airbrake...
I haven't built this, but I would figure you just measure with your DMM.
Stab the Black pole into the end, and the red pole into one of the sliding pieces and slide up and down till you read what you want to read. Lock it down and DONE.
As I said though, I've not built this...I'm just guessing from common sense.

Hi, newb here, Just curious ~ what about a mechanicaly loaded resistance circuit, you could make a dummy speaker with just a suspended voice coil in a magnetic field and to make it mimic a speaker load you could double or tripple the suspension, also you could play with different types of suspension and make that the variable in the equation. It would be like playing the suspension instead of the speaker only it would be quiet because it has no speaker cone. And there are other variables you could play with ~ it would make up a whole new area to experiment in. Ah well just a thought !

I think that's along the lines you're talking about.

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Well now thats about what I had in mind !!! (Should have known some one was doing that )
But also along this line of thinking I was wondering about reintroducing some function of the suspension system that would inject back into the amp circuit by way of feedback a variable that could influence the reactivity of the various components of the amplification model. Sort of a mechanical presence/treble/bass/overdrive variable that would be independent yet influences the electron flow through the amp. Almost a controllable microphonics idea.
Don't know enough to design it yet. But maybe some day.

Re: DIY Airbrake...
So I have my airbrake all built and it works correctly in that it lowers the volume of the amp. I used all the part numbers and wiring diagram on the PDF for this thread. The only thing I don't have is the Treble Bleed Cap on the Rheostat.
My question is....on the max attenuation level my express is still freaking loud at 1/4 volume. Its not very "bedroom" level. Which from the Guitarplayer review of the airbrake they make it out to get really quiet.
