Bassman reissue low volume issue

Post by Turtleshell714 »

Hey all, new to the AmpGarage and wondering if anyone has any insight on an issue I’m having. My Bassman reissue from the 90’s just doesn’t seem as loud as it used to be. Maybe it’s me but it seems a little brittle maybe.....
first things first I do have extra tubes and tried them besides the rectifier tube which is fairly new. Don’t know if that would cause this issue anyways, but any insight would be awesome. When I crank it, I still am getting decent tones but seems it’s not taking my drive pedals as well either. Thanks all

If you’ve swapped all the valves with ones that you know to be good, then as an amp user, you’ve done all you can.
As you’ve still got the rectifier to do, then that’s your next step.
If that doesn’t help, then it’s time to find a competent tech to investigate further.

Trying extra tubes of no known level of being good or bad may not help you find out if it is a tube issue making for your amps problem.

A amp made in the 90s could very esily need some new power supply filters by now and many times these amp have a phase inverter tube plate resistor go open.

One ease way to test this out is to remove one output tube at a time and make sure that the amp sounds like crap when turned up to 3 or 4 or so.

Were you able to rebias the amp?
Does the amp have any distortion when the volume is low?
