SmallBear has the best prices on Alpha pots and knobs I've found as well. Look at the bulk pricingOh wow...I forgot about small bear. I started off doing mods to pedals back in the day and then went on to amps. I used to order from them all the time. Good people.

Will do. Took a peek last night there and it reminded me of doing pedals back in the day. They were my main source. I started using tube depot when I got into amps and needed higher voltage rated components.T Wilcox wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 4:02 pmSmallBear has the best prices on Alpha pots and knobs I've found as well. One thing I did forget to mention about ordering wire at Apex is if you order less than 500ft it does not come on a roll. He winds it around a pentagonal roller which leaves bends every few inches and was a pain to deal with. I only order minimum of 500 ft for this reason. Still the best solid core I have worked with
Re: Any suggestions for quality solid core wire source
Thank you for mentioning this. That won't work for me. Is his wire PTFE over tinned or silver-plated copper or just bare copper?
Re: Any suggestions for quality solid core wire source
Honestly I dont know. Compared to other solid core wire I've used the copper is more pliable and I have not had any problems with wire ends breaking off easily like some other cheap wire. I've done approx 6 builds with apex wire so far and have had no issues at all ( that I know of atleast ). I just got tired of tinning all my stranded wire ends and thought if the all the components have solid leads whats the difference? I do take extra caution when stripping to not knick the wire
The wire that came without rolls I just rewound onto another wire roll by hand. It was inconvenient but only took a few minutes

Re: Any suggestions for quality solid core wire source
Thanks! Steve is highly regarded and sells good stuff. Maybe I can get him to roll some up on soda can, instead of the pentagonal winder. My OCD will not accept wire with kinksT Wilcox wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 7:02 pm Honestly I dont know. wouldn't hurt to ask. If he does, report back please
Just realized this is in "Dumble Discussion"
If a moderator is reading this, maybe this thread should be moved to the Technical Discussion group as it applies to all amp builders!?

Steve at Apex jr. also has the best teflon silver tinned copper strand wire. Available in every color. Strips flawlessly, takes a good prebend, no breakage issues, comes on round plastic rolls, great prices.
After stripping, dip the end in flux for a blob free wire with minimal increased diameter.

Hi guys..
Been a while since I’ve been here, but will answer some of the questions I see in this thread.
The Teflon Solid Core I stock is Mil Spec M16878/4 Type E 600V. It is Silver Plated Copper Wire.
Also rated at 200 degrees C.
I don’t have very many surplus spools in stock and most are for 500 - 1000ft. With some being
For 5000ft. I have a manual wire spoiler and roll my wire in hanks for small quantities and like
Mentioned I roll on spools at 500 ft and above and for higher gauges in 100ft runs.
If you have questions or concerns you can call or email me and we can discuss this further..

Re: Any suggestions for quality solid core wire source
The solid core from McMaster is good but it's PVC so it burns easily and is twice as thick as the same size wire in teflon.
