Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
Maybe Andy or Rick might be able to give their opinion..but from where i was standing,I listened to Frank play his early vintage strat through the amp,and it was warm and smooth and thick sounding. Not at all too bright. Like just enough of everything.
Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
More like exactly enough of anything that you would, or could, ever want it to be. BTW, that Strat is a '63 hardtail that's original except for the Fiesta Red refin. Damn is that thing pretty! Here's some pics of it, Frank's trying to sell it cuz he needs the money:Richie wrote:Maybe Andy or Rick might be able to give their opinion..but from where i was standing,I listened to Frank play his early vintage strat through the amp,and it was warm and smooth and thick sounding. That amp totally rocks!!! I wish I had the money that day because it would be in my basement...

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
I can't disagree, the amp does rock!
I don't have any complaints about it being too bright or too dark. I haven't felt the need to zero or dime any of the TMB settings whether playing the LP or Tele.
I think Richie said it well: "warm and smooth and thick sounding"

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
I am using stock 18 watt iron in my 18 watt Liverpool and wanted to have a custom tranny set made to these specs as well, what did they set you back ?UR12 wrote:
I had Heyboer make me a set of Trannys. The PT is identical to the 18watt Marshall tranny except that it was wound with a 300v tap and a 260v tap so I could run EL84s or 6V6s. The OT was wound to 10.5K to match the 5.2k used on 4 EL84s.
Should be a fun project

That was a few months back but If I remember correctly it was about $160.oo for the set. You can order the same trannys I used from Heyboer. PT is part # 9127 has both 300 and 265v windings and the OT is HTS 9128. Both are made like the 18w to physically fit a 18watt style blank chassis. I'm getting ready to order another PT tomorrow for amother combo build. I can let you know the exact prices after I talk to Heyboer tomorrow or you could just give them a call.gtrcollectr wrote:I am using stock 18 watt iron in my 18 watt Liverpool and wanted to have a custom tranny set made to these specs as well, what did they set you back ?UR12 wrote:

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
A closed back 4x12 with Sammi 40's it sounds great ! The voltage on my PT is a bit hot so I just keep it scaled back to normal liverpool levels. I would like to use the upper 20% of my voltage knob but will need to swap the PT to get it right. Does the OT with the 10.5k sound different than the stock 18watt output tranny?

I am using Sammi 300B50s in my builds in a 2 x 12 open back combo cab. I think they sound great also. I haven't tried a 8k tranny so I can't comment on what that would sound like. I am running a 265-0-265 on my PT.gtrcollectr wrote:A closed back 4x12 with Sammi 40's it sounds great ! The voltage on my PT is a bit hot so I just keep it scaled back to normal liverpool levels. Hi Dana
I am snuffling around a few threads on this forum here as I try and decide the best way to start on one of the TW builds... I have a Spitfire that I built last year and from looking at Ron's Liverpool documentation, mine seems exactly like the Liverpool apart from the fact there are just two El84's instead of 4 as in the Liverpool.. I was wondering if you did out a schematic of your build as I am looking to see if I can mod my Spitfire across.. looking to end up with a 15 watt deal....also I too would love to house it in a combo
Cheers
Tony

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
I basically build the same circuit as the liverpool as far as part values so the schematic is the same. I use 2 of the JJ cap cans instead of trying to cram 6 caps inside the amp. I also havd Heyboer wind me a custom 10.5k OT for the amp and run the same voltages as the original Liverpool. I haven't built a Spitfire but I have done a couple of the Lightnings. I use a stock size Marshall style 18 watt blank chassis and house mine in a Marshall 2 x 12 combo cab. It is a very cool amp. I just got trannies in to build a couple more.fayser wrote:Hi Dana

I honestly have never heard of Sammi speakers.
So Korean made, who sells them in the USA?

Yes they are made in Korea. Believe it or not, Heebgb was he last distributer here in the US but he doesn't have them anymore. I don't think there is a distributor in the US at the present time.Structo wrote:I honestly have never heard of Sammi speakers.

I first found them back in the early 80s when Stanford Acoustics Applied Technology (SAAT) in KY was the distributor. I found them quite by accident. I was running my own amp repair shop and dabbling in the car audio stuff. SAAT went out of business in the late 80s to early 90s. SAAT manufactured their own line of audiophile speakers, Volcano car speakers and the drivers for all the Federal sirens the cops and emergency vehicles use. I called them one day trying to see if they could supply me with recone kits. I ended up picking up the retail line of the Sammis and Volcano car speakers. The Sammis have a thin paper cone and break up nicely in a guitar amp. I love em and still have about 6 left of the 300B50s.
