Made a few changes. How is tone?
Glaswerks amp. 90s voice. Audix I5 close mic on G1265. No delay. Only a little reverb.
Readjusted the stack and went to the large plate loads on both tubes. Touched up a few eyelets too.
Just a quick wank take over this Stern backing. Amp was not too loud. Playing was kind of spotty....

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
I dig it. Not as "honky" in the midrange as some I've heard. Really nice, full tone. Horn-like. Nice.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
I never tire of hearing you play. It never really matters what the amp sounds like for me. The phrasing, harmonic concept, and time feel are always happening for me. The amp does sound stellar. I am watching heisthl's house in sunny Phoenix, so not in my normal listening environment to make an accurate comment regarding sonics. I like that mic tons. A 57 killer IMHO. Can't go wrong with a Mike Stern funk groove, either. Hurray for dogears!!
Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
I'd like to hear Scott and Robben play together!
It would be like dueling Dumbles.

Scott,
Killer sounding amp, even better playing. I agree with Stelligan, I never tire of hearing you play.

Sounds absolutely smooth and buttery, great tone!!!
Great playing also, killer phrasing and feel!
It's an HRM amp? what about tonestack and PI style? Oh man, this tone is driving me mad

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
Thanks guys!
This is a BM poweramp. Skyline stack. HRM circuit. 6L6 tubes. There are some changes to the circuit though. Clip had the PAB and midboost on. Circuit is tuned to midboost being on for lead tone to keep it fat. There are changes since the knee is now much lower with the PAB/midboost combo.
Built in loop too.

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
Love it.
Just for reference, could you say which settings of the amp?
Thanks.

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
Scott, I've been listening to this clip a lot over the last two days. Love the tone...very refined but still has that quality that I listen for. (You know, that "brassy" thing.) However, what really stands out for me is the approach you took to playing over the track. Sooo in the pocket! Very cool!!!
Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
Dear Mr. Ears - I'll take your wank takes over me playing my brains out any day. Great groove and feel.
Ah, the tone. Phat and authoritative, but it never gets in it's own way with that bit of hardness that some lead tones have in lower registers. The lack of buzz and grain makes me think of great jazz french horn.
Very hip, Scott. Very hip, indeed.

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
Here are two more tests.
TAD short bottles and a larger OD1 cap http://www.scottlernermusic.com/2008/MSwerks8.mp3
Phillips 7581A tubes and a more optimized OD1 cap http://www.scottlernermusic.com/2008/MSwerks9.mp3
I think the Phillips clip is tighter and nicer. No?
No delay on these at all. Just a touch of verb. No EQ either.
All clips are Baker B1 guitar on Dimarzio Virtual Hot PAF bridge pup.

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
I like very much also the first clip, it's FAAAAAAT! in a beautiful way...
the second clip is more refined and fusion like, a slightly more modern sound than the first...
great playing as usual...

Re: Made a few changes. How is tone?
Yeah, I like the 2nd one a little better.
But the dissonant double-stops in the first clip are very cool. That is one of my "acid tests" for the OD tone- how does it deal with double-stops, especially dissonant ones.
