My 3 channel build

Post by Bob-I »

After all the assistance I think I'm almost done. The tone is what I'm looking for, the function is almost perfect, the hum is under control after adjusting some lead dress so all I need to do is complete the faceplate but here it is.

The controls include the channel switches plus Bright for the Fender channel, boost and mid boost for the Dumble side. I added a local feedback loop to CL2 and I like the fattness it gives the clean side.

I'm still debating adding a pull pot for bright on the Dumble side. The treble control has plenty of brightness so I don't think I'll add it.

Here's the faceplate I designed.

And some piddling around. I'm still getting a thump when I switch the clean to Fender in spite of it working on the bench... damnit.

No, the second clean is the Dumble clean. I was suprised too. I was expecting that the Dumble clean would be less than great but I'm thrilled.

Thx.

wow bob.. that is amazing then.. i had imagined the dumble one to be the first one which is just.. more sterile i think would be the word... that second one is just real full...

Now you just have to do a finalized layout when you get it all tweaked so i can steal some ideas off it:)

I love that Dumble clean!

The reverb is great as well. Is that just the amp's reverb, or did you add some to the clip?

Congrats, Bob. You've got this one pretty much nailed right out of the gate! Nice fat reverb and Dumble clean kills!!! OD is tight and smooth.

Very nice Bob, I love both the Fender clean and Dumble tones. Your board layout looks great too. 8)

Dontcha hate it when something goes terribly wrong when you're almost done?

I decided to put a push/pull pot in for a bright switch. Since then I'm getting nothing but hum. I put everything back, still hum. 3 hours of troubleshooting and all I'm sure of is that the CL1 is causing it.... ALL BY ITSELF!!!

I've disconnected the tone stack from the plate, connected up a cap and connect it directly to the PI. Hum, disconnect it, no hum. New tube, hum, reflow all solder joints, hum.........

All voltages check out. I'm stumped. Tomorrow I'll pick it back up again, maybe swap out the tube socket.... I'm out of ideas.  :x

And you've tried a different tube, right?

Yes, different tube but not a different filter cap....

I'm down to my last idea.

Nope, not down to my last idea....... It was a relay problem. Grounding through the pop reduction cap. Damnit... talk about chasing your tail.

Looks a really nice build, I love seeing these photos I wish I could start my own but too behind with repairs on other peoples amps. This forum helps fill the void.
