Transformers available soon

Post by Moose »

OK, I've ordered a batch of transformers. I'm having the OTs custom wound with 5200 and 6600 ohm taps, but they will otherwise be the same as what was available from Jenkins.

Pricing is NOT set until I do the math on peripheral charges, but I ordered enough that even with the dual taps on the OT they should come in for a little less than the one-off price from Heyboer.

I'll be setting up a simple order system on my website at toneslut.com, and I'll do the paypal thing as well as money orders.

And, to make this clear, I'm not doing this to make money or to be in the transformer business. I'm a builder, not a parts guy. My motives are still quite selfish -- I want to keep the twreck group around for advice and I want to experiment more with both 5200 and 6600 ohm primaries. Please respect that I'm not a company, I'm just one guy.

I expect to have stock in about two weeks. I'll keep everyone posted.

Will you ship to Germany?
I would really like to have one of these and hear how it performs compared to Hammond irons...

I don't know what's involved with customs or ths shipping price to Europe. If it isn't too difficult and you can suck up the extra expense, I'll ship there. But remember that transformers are pretty heavy so it might be prohibitive.

If you like, I'll weigh them when they come in and see how much it will cost.

hello there, i read in a previous post about about the heyboer outputs that you're getting that a "lower gauss steel" will be used (not m6). for reference, do you know what type they are using (m19, m50, etc)? thanks very much---i'm interested in trying one. rh

Steel is M27 as I recall.

It's supposed to have a little better bottom end and slightly different harmonic content, but I haven't experimented enough to do more than repeat rumors. I'm pretty excited to experiment with it, myself.

Just got the box of OTs yesterday. I should be able to ship by Monday.

They'll be about $145/set and that does include the dual primary output transformer. I'm going to try a shopping cart on my website that will calculate shipping rates and all that, but it isn't ready yet. If you want to order more quickly, just go to this page:

http://www.toneslut.com/transformers/

It'll shoot me an email and I can calculate the cost including shipping to your address. I'll be taking Paypal or you can send a check or money order -- just specify in your email.

That cost makes me only a couple of dollars after paypal fees. About enough to cover packaging and driving to the fedex place. If there's enough demand, I may be able to order larger lots and lower the price $5 or so, but I wasn't willing to gamble with 50 transformers the first order.
